I have never written a negative review before, but Kangaroo Hotel had some unique problems that unfortunately really affected my trip to Japan/Tokyo. I stayed at Kangaroo Hotel with my friend at the end of May 2015 for 5 nights. The room was small and the facilities were clean, just as we had expected from other online reviews. After a... More

Location: It is situated at Taito Ward with 10-15min walk to Minamisenju Station. There are a lot of option for your rail ride since Minamisenju is one of those station that has a subway, JR and an express line. I recommend search and plan before going. It is not that hard to find but on the first time visit to... More

We stayed here for 9 nights and found it great. Very clean and friendly staff. Good facilities e.g washing machines and computer. It is a little way to Shibuya and Shinjuku but as its only 5 min walk to the metro you can get there in no time. Ok the rooms are a little small but we found this no... More

Awesome little hostel, very private and clean rooms, and you can adjust the temperature which is great in winter time, get a futon or a western bed (i lived the futon), do your laundry if you need to, only cons are it's hard to find and there's no elevator. So use google maps and see what you're looking for before... More

Objectively.... Kangaroo is ok. The place is nice, clean. The rates are ok. But for the cons... The place is a bit too far from the subway and JR stations. 10 minutes on print might not be too much but actually walking that distance eats up a lot of time and energy. There's a bus line that can take you... More

It is easy to access from minami senju which is just 3 stations away from ueno. There are supermarket and shops nearby. The police station is not far. The hotel direction is easy to access. The hotel has very clean facilities. The staff are helpful. I have been living here for 5 nights and it is worth to stay here!

Good design and lovely hostel. Staffs were friendly. I stayed here for 2 nights. From Minami senju station ,15 mins walk distance. Around hostel has many convenient store and supermarket. Room is small and good for 1 person with tv and refrigerator. If you have big luggages,it may hard to carry stuffs to upper floor because it hasn't elevator.

Hotel is within 10~15 minutes walk from Minami-Senju Station. Accommodation wise; Room has a small TV, an air-con, refrigerator and has futon for its bed. Room would be considered small for 2 people, but definitely still doable with luggages squeezing at the foot of our beds. Bathrooms are located on the first level and every level has a shared toilet... More

You can't beat this price for staying in Tokyo!! If you're fine with the small room, it really is an awesome place! I loved the futon room because it gave me more room to sort out things like luggage if I rolled the futon away to the corner. The futon was super comfy, there's AC so you can stay nice... More

I think this is the best price you could possible hope for if you're looking for a single/private room in Tokyo. For about the price of 7 Starbucks lattes at home, you'll get a tiny private room. Is it really that small? Yes. The room has a single bed in it and I'd say the whole room would be about... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighborhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
