The hotel is very convenient and around 5-10min walk from the Ikebukuro JR and Metro station. Frankly speaking, the popular shopping area of Ikebukuro is on the other side of the Metro exit, but there are still a lot of restuarants and convenience stores near the hotel and the shopping area is not far neither, so no problem at all.... Toyoko Inn has been my regular hotel whenever am traveling to Japan. I started my stay with tis hotel at Ikebukuro. Although tis area is deemed as an unpopular areas to stay among local but I found it to b pretty safe so far. It's only 10 min walk fm the Ikebukuro JR station, North Exit, super convenient in terms... More

Happily arrived at the hotel & was shocked to know that a double room is only meant for 1 person though we did indicated that max occupancy is 2. Had a long conversation with AGODA but end of the day, we still have to pay extra charges if 2 person is occupying the room. The hotel receptionist was very sympathetic... More

I find all Toyoko Inns to be an economical and predictable place to stay. It's a budget business hotel chain with a business model designed to provide essentials and that's it. You get a small private room with en suite facilities, elevator, free wifi, breakfast, everything the busy Japanese business traveller needs. Check in, shower, sleep, grab a quick breakfast... More

I will definitely consider the Toyoko Inn chain again if I return to Japan some day. Overall I think this hotel is a good example of glass-half-full, glass-half-empty. If you want to find fault, there are shortcomings. Its location in Ikebukuro is both busy and charmless. Things mostly work smoothly enough but if they don't, it will be very difficult... More

When I traveled to Japan, it was a cheap, nice stay. They accomodated us with traditional Japanese food and a nice, perfect sized room. The bathroom was kind of strange as it was all plastic-like. Opening up the bathroom door, it seemed as if I stepped into a whole different place. It was very clean and very close to the... More

Have stayed twice at this hotel over the last year during business and leisure travel and have had good experiences both times. The rooms are Toyoko Inn style, small with pretty firm beds, but this hotel is about location. It's a really affordable option just a few blocks from the Ikebukuro Station North Entrance, from where you can essentially get... More

The rooms are small but clean and the hotel is close to the train station. It also has amenities like washing and drying machines (100 yen coins). The staff is very helpful. There is free Internet access in the room.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
