This was the first time I traveled by myself and stay in Ikebukuro, i booked the Grand City Hotel. I found the hotel is super convenient and quiet, less then 10 minutes walk to the train station, I just met few customer at this quiet hotel, not like the other hotel I visited in the same area. Room and bed... More

Clean room with TV, hair dryer, bad instant coffee, fridge (auto off when you leave room), and a kettle. Plenty of outlets, but no free wifi. The price was good for a super convenient location. Very similar to a Toyoko Inn, but no free breakfast included. If you want breakfast, it's about 1,100 yen extra, although they did hand out... More

I loved staying at this hotel! The neighborhood is lively and pleasant, with lots of places for eating and shopping. The staff was kind and helpful, and spoke more english than most places. The room was tiny, but the price was really reasonable. The breakfast was all right, many different things to choose between, but I ended up buying stuff... More

The location is great, 10 mins walk from the station. There are tons of restaurants in the area, family mart next door, starbucks around the corner. There is the Sunshine mall with a Tokyu hands just a couple of blocks away, movie houses, bowling alley and other retail stores too. Ikebukuro is a nice area to use as a home... More

Room It's not big and good enough to fit luggage and simply stay for bed and shower. Location It's a bit hidden in Ikebukuro as it's not on main road but then once you know how to get there you will find it actually enjoys superb location and convenience. Just 5 mins walk from JR Ikebukuro station. Convenience The 24-hr... More

We were happy with our room (double room on the 15th floor), small, but adequat, bathroom is 'like new'. We had stayed at smaller rooms in Japan. I had enjoyed the complimentery beverage offered at a station by our elevator. Hot and cold olong tea, hot water for your own tea, and lemon iced tea. The 'grain tea' is very... More

Stinky, old! Horrible experience staying here. It is well located but the whole hotel reeks of cigarette smoke. Also the internet does not work! Was very disappointed, most horrible experience at a hotel ever. Would never, ever stay here again! The bedspreads reek of cigarette smoke and the rooms are tiny! We ended up moving hotels because it was so... More

Very good location, lots of nice restaurants around, very small double room with centralized air cond which I dislike as it gets pretty warm at night, Below average service from front office. Will find elsewhere to stay on next visit to Tokyo.

Location: Very good, in the bustling streets of Ikebukuro. 5 minutes from the Yamonote Line. Service: Speaks good english. And when i go back to the hotel in the afternoon... More

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
