I opted for Ark Hotel mainly because of its location. It only takes about 8 minutes to walk from the hotel to Ikebukuro Station, where large shopping malls and pedestrian zones are around the corner. Similar to other budget hotels in Japan, the rooms are typically small. It adheres to an environmentally friendly rule that the housekeepers only tidy up... More

This hotel is as small as is typical for budget hotels in Tokyo, but is very comfy and clean. It's in the middle of the places I wanted to go to: Animate, Tokyu Hands, Otome Road. And like anywhere in Tokyo, the staff are really kind and helpful.

I just completed a 10-day stay at the Ark Hotel in Ikebukuro. Having stayed in many hotels in the surrounding area, this was one of the nicest for the price. The hotel is located adjacent to the elevated expressway but for my stay the room was on the opposite of the hotel and amazingly quiet. Many smaller "hotels" can be... More

The rooms are quite small, but they everything you need and they are very clean. The hotel is near a street full of restaurant, cafe and pachinko and 6 minutes away from the ikebukuro station. The personnel is very kind, even though they speak almost no english they wil try to help you in everyway they can't.

We stayed in the Ark Hotel for 2 days at the begining of our holiday and again for 4 at the end. It was located at the end of the main street in Ikebukuro and very close to Sunshine City, a huge shopping mall. Its about 5/10 mins walk from ikebukuro station and although isn't the most convienent lacation in... More

I stayed at this hotel twice in May 2009 and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite small (hey, it is Tokyo!) but very clean and well serviced. The prices are very competive and the breakfast was very good quality. The only thing to consider is the ten minute walk from the railway station... More

The Hotel Ark Tokyo, what can I say? I got this hotel recommended from a travel agent, I wanted a budget hotel in the Tokyo area, and this hotel really was a great deal! The location itself isn't the greatest, it is situated next to a motorway and the views are therefore limited, but there is no need to be... More

I booked my rooms for about Y13,500 per night and I think it is a very good deal. First, the location, in Ikebukero East side, is very convenient. We walked one minute to Sunshine Bldg., and every morning and night had convenience stores, ramen, bakeries, donuts, and arcades to keep us fed and entertained at those times. The only problem... Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
