I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights for a quick getaway in Tokyo. If u pick Ikebukuro as ur base, then this hotel is a great choice. We got a decent sized room for a good price via hotels.com, breakfast is unneccesary as great cafe and restaurants are everywhere. Ikebukuro station is only 10 mins walk away, and it... More

I am a seasoned traveller but never have I met such complete service! Hotel has more than enough restaurants to choose from western to... More

4 Star hotel in Ikebukuro area. Across the Ikebukuro train station (south exit). Near restaurants and shopping malls. Very near Starbucks coffee too. Family mart near the hotel. Across is MOs burger. Across train station a 24 hours restaurant. Room is not too big. Typical Shangrila (philippines). We booked triple room with 3 single beds, still have space for luggages,... More

My husband, 10yr old daughter and I stayed here for 6 lovely days. Travel time from Narita Airport via private coach was approximately 1hr. Arrival and check-in was fast and efficient. Room was a bit smallish but with two comfortable double-sized beds. We were given options for 2 restaurants for the daily buffet breakfast which were both good. Staff spoke... More

I stayed in Japan for about 10 days! For 2 nights I stayed in this hotel. The bamboo outside of the hotel entrance was a beautiful touch of character. The Jr station was literally right across the street from the hotel. We only stayed two nights because we wanted to visit as many cities in japan as possible in our... More

The location was no more than 5 mins from the train station, closest exit was to choose the 'metropolitan' exit. We found it easy to get to from Narita airport via public transport. The Kensai train to nippori station and then change to the JR line to Ikebukoro station. Stations are clearly signposted in English so really helpful. The location... More

The Metropolitan was our home for a week and we loved it. Or hosts out us up here and I don't think they could have done much better in Ikeburo. The rooms were well appointed albeit compact. We were able to see Mt Fuji our first day. Then clouds blocked that the rest of our time there. But the view... More

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
