A great hotel with nicely appointed rooms and a larger western style bed. The rooms are really small though believe it or not, these rooms are still big by Japanese standards. There is virtually no room to move once two suitcases are in the room. Location is fantastic and very close to railway station, department stores, endless shopping and great... More

This was the hotel my company arranged for me to stay at. I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the rooms, and also the service by the staff. My Japanese is not so good, and despite this the staff was able to help and my stay was pleasant. Thank you!

Hotel Metropolitan is located at the Ikebukuro station and surrounded by a shopping district that is immense. The rooms are comfortable with beds that offer a good night's rest, pillowy duvets, plush towels that are gleaming white. The room has free wifi, an empty fridge for your chosen snacks, a kettle and a hair dryer. American guests will appreciate the... More

A good location literally across from JR line with its own entrance/exit! Great for exploring in and around Tokyo. Near restaurants and shops. Good HUB British bar/pub just up from hotel. Only downside would be the elevators can be busy with large groups booking in at same time, but not a major issue! Two elevators were not working which didn't... More

We've stayed twice at the Hotel Metropolitan in Tokyo, in October 2012 (a double room) and May 2014 (a twin). If you're travelling as a couple, there's a bit more room in the twin, enough to make it a worthwhile choice. In 2014 we booked the double first, then kept our eye out for a deal - which came along... More

Our family of 5 stayed in 2 adjacent rooms for 4 nights. We paid a few dollars more for superior rooms with free wifi and beautiful views of Mt Fuji. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the beds were, and at the ability of staff to speak English. Check in is 3pm, we arrived at 11am, so we stored... More

We stayed there for 3 days. The location was convenient. Pretty close to the station and there are a lot of department stores around. The locality was safe to roam around even in the night. The hotel had numerous amenities and the breakfast spread was huge and sumptuous! Would definitely stay at Metropolitan the next time we are in Tokyo.

We always stayed in Shinjuku for convenience sake and it's the first time we chose a hotel in Ikebukuro. Surprisingly we feel that staying in Metropolitan is even a better choice! Airport Limousine stops at Metropolitan, and it's only a 5-min walk to JR and Metro stations. It only takes you 5 mins to arrive in Shinjuku by taking Saikyo... More

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
