This hotel is in a great location, close to a major tube station that takes you to all the nearby areas and attractions like Odaiba and Shinjuku. The tube is beneath the shopping mall which is huge with a number of shops and restaurants inside. And the basement has a good supermarket and other food/snack stalls selling culinary delights there.... More

This was my first stay in Tokyo and this hotel has easy access to the subway and rai lstation at Ikebukuro (follow signs to Metropolitan and it is one block away). There are many restaurants and stores near the station, and a convenience store on the same block as the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely... More

Not the biggest of rooms, but two adults and a 10 year old were happy to have this hotel as a base for three nights. Clearly a place catering for tour groups, many of them Chinese. That might cause a full lobby and busy front desk. But then there are the extremely helpful staff. Given the proximity to Ikebukuro station... More

Hotel Metropolitan is a huge upscale hotel surrounded by lots of shopping places, restaurants and even a JR station. The interior and facilities are modern , the buffet selection extensive and service was spot-on. There are a lot of restaurants and convenience stores for those late-night cravings and there are 24 tax-free stores selling lots of items from chocolates, cosmetics... More

Convenient from train, about 5 minutes walk from JR. Small rooms but most Japanese hotel have small rooms. Clean and good location lots of convenient store and restaurants near by. We booked two triple rooms & one twin room for first two nites, then changed to four twin rooms in last two nites. We requested all the rooms be arranged in same floor in whole trip while made a reservation and was guaranteed. We confirmed it again with front desk lady when checked-in. Second nite, they took out the extra... More

this is a large busy very typical hotel with not a lot of style but it was great for a work trip. Small rooms - typical for Japan I guess. You have to pay over 2000 yen to use the gym which is the first I've found anywhere in the world.

Nice hotel. Rooms are on the smaller side with not much space to walk about after laying down my luggage, but it's nothing surprising for Tokyo hotels. Staff were helpful and polite. From my room Mt Fuji could be seen in a distance away and I thought that was a pretty neat thing to experience. Location-wise, it is located next... More

The hotel is near Ikebukuro station (just a few minutes walk ) which is very comfortable to travel with the JR line. Nearby the hotel is metropolitan plaza, Tobu shopping mall and so many interesting places which provide eateries, convenient store etc. the services was good, the concierge provided us a small map and give us info about how to... For those looking for a convenient hotel located a few paces away from the Ikebukuro Station with many different options for food and shopping, then I would recommend the Hotel Metropolitan in Ikebukuro. The hotel room was tight but did have two queen beds and we were able to set up our three large suit cases and still maneuver around... More

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
