We have been in 4 Hostels so far in Japan, all in the same budget range and all were nice and clean. Asakusa Smile may have a low standard and we wouldn't care that much about the low equipment in the kitchen and the toilets may be tweedy, but what shocked us was how dirty and filthy the place was!... I had a great stay where i've a lot of very nice people with who. I travelled all around Japon. I ve been in the new building and the old one. The new one is less comfy than the old one, it looks more like an appartment. Staff was helpful and this hostel is very well located to discover Tokyo.... More

It is considered a very cheap accommodation in Tokyo and the bed is decent. It is not too far from places like Shinjuku and Shibuya. The lady at the frontdesk speaks English, Japanese and Mandarin. However, the common area was a mess and unlikely other hostels, it is difficult for you to mingle around. Then your luggage will be locked... More

It is a simple place but well located in Tokyo. Near Asakusa Station, ferry terminal, temples and gift stores. The staff is very helpful and they also have a nice bar on the reception where you can have good time with the other guests.

We stayed in the second building a few streets away from the main building in the 10 bed dorm room. I always try and find some positives when writing reviews of the places I've stayed but unfortunately this place really doesn't have any. It's filthy and can get disgustingly smelly. The young lad we saw 'cleaning' really couldn't be bothered... More

Maybe one of the cheapest hostels in Tokyo, The hostel has 2 buildings. I stayed in the 2nd building, 4 blocks walking from the main building. Is not very clean but you can survive for a couple of days!

Room and bed is good. But toilet is old. Let say it's not clean as Japan standard. The stairs is disgusting. Anyway, it's OK for one night when you come Japan in cherry blossom season and everywhere is full booking. The only remarkable point is welcome drink at the bar :)

On my first night at the Asakusa Smile I was propositioned by another visitor, and had a very unpleasant experience where he did not take no for an answer, to put it gently. I did not return to sleep at the hostel. I was a lone female studying Japanese, who had travelled to Tokyo to meet up with friends. When... More

This place is lousy. Had to book at short notice - should have stayed in the riverside capsule instead, much better value. Noisy, smelly, dirty, poor shared facilities and awful dorm. The bar is good and worth a visit but the hostel is best avoided!

If you're looking for a good time, this is the place. There is a 100 yen shop literally 20 steps away from the building. They give you free alcohol tickets which you can use for any drink of your choice. Let's just say after 11 rounds of irish car bombs, 4-5 rounds of whiskey and gin, and teaching Japanese girls...
