I chose this hotel because it was walking distance from the Shinagawa train station which is where I wanted to get on the Shinkansen (bullet train). We only needed to stay here one night. I reserved the Classic Room, 1 Double bed. The room was very nice though smaller by U.S. standards. I expected this. However, the bathroom was beautiful,... More

The Strings is located with direct access to Shinagawa station in Tokyo, which is served by the bullet train (Shinkansen). The hotel occupies the upper floors (26-32) of an office tower. The rooms are arranged 360 degree around an atrium on the 26th floor. Having a high floor doesn't always mean a good view, due to taller buildings right next... More

I have stayed in many 5-star hotels in Tokyo and The Strings is definitely the one who makes feel home. Arrived hotel in the early morning to drop our luggage. 6 hours later when we are back to hotel the staff remembered who we are and even upgraded us to a corner room with fantastic view. After we were settled... More

this is a beautiful hotel right next to the shinagawa JR station. The interior atrium is great. They upgraded our room, and the view out the corner windows 32 stories high over southern Tokyo was really superior. The absolutely most friendly and helpful staff ever. obiously I was impressed and pleased.

The Strings has an awesome location just outside of Shinagawa Station and lots of access to travelers shops (in case you forgot a tie or belt) and restaurants (both Japanese and Western). The hotel itself is nice with comfortable rooms (albeit on the smaller side), a decent gym (good for cardio and a basic work out) and pleasant meeting and... More

This hotel is not only gorgeous, its rooms have fantastic views and very large windows. Service was also exceptional! They checked us in immediately and offered us a late check out, without us needing to ask. They were always smiling, polite and helpful. We left a wallet in their hotel and the concierge offered to bring it to us all... More

The Strings is conveniently located next to the Shinagawa Station with access to the Shinkansen, JR Yamanote, and Tokyo Metro Keikyu lines among others. The hotel is definitely geared towards Western business travelers but would be good for first-time visitors to Japan who might be intimidated by a more tourist-oriented property. I stayed in both the Classic and Deluxe room... More

I arrived at Haneda so the location of this hotel is just perfect! Hotel lobby is impressive and with this being an Intercontinental Hotel, service is just five star! The concierge managed out dinner arrangements most nights and even arranged for me to join the tour to Mount Fuji at short notice.

My wife and I stayed here while on our trip around Japan (Osaka, Kyoto and last stop Tokyo). The Strings is a very impressive Hotel which is conveniently located right next to Shinagawa Station where there are multiple options for JR trains in all directions as well as the Shinkansen (bullet trains). The service was exemplary from the moment we... More

We really enjoyed this hotel - it's a luxurious five star experience all the way through. The building is beautiful, the rooms are very nice, the restaurant and bar are top quality. The hotel is a two minute walk from Shinagawa station, which is one of the most convenient and alive places to stay in Tokyo. The only drawback was... More

Staying in Shinagawa / Gotanda

Neighborhood Profile
Shinagawa / Gotanda
In Shinagawa, an office district shares space with luxury residential buildings and the scene is constantly changing with rapid development. Ikedayama park and Togoshi park are great places to see beautiful traditional Japanese gardens with ponds, as well as enjoy the changing seasons. Shinagawa was a post and a port town during the Edo era and the lavish old Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples at Shinagawa and Ebara are very popular. It's a great place to get in touch with the old Edo atmosphere on a pleasure boat cruising along the canal. The neighboring area around Gotanda station is a study in modern contrasts filled with unique restaurants and a lively nightlife.
