I stayed here as a single traveler - for what it was - a safe space to sleep and at a decent price. Pros - close to metro, and fairly cheap (for Tokyo). It was also close to the University and had plentiful eating options nearby. I spent one night at a hotel near Tokyo Disneyland, and they held my... More

Room had air con, tv, fridge and kettle. There were alcoholic vending machines and a choice of western or other types of breakfast. (It was so nice to finally have some toast and a fried egg!) A little tricky to find as it's down a lot of steps but there were plenty of roadside maps to point me in the... More

My wife and I stayed at the YMCA-Tokyo for eight nights at the end of January. We thought it was a very good value, and we did not regret our choice. We were especially interested in visiting used bookstores in Jimbocho, and this is one of the best hotels for that purpose. When you see “YMCA” you might think that... More

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The price for one night is pretty cheap so we did not expect much for it, but when when we got to the hotel, this hotel is better than what I thought. The lobby is clean, and the room is really nice. The location of this hotel is perfect. It's in a... More

I stayed here in late 1980. The date selector did not let me select this date though. The rooms are small, but comfortable, for a single person. There is a basic restaurant as part of the complex. It is not expensive, when you consider it is in Tokyo, and my recollection is it is near an Underground railway station, so... More

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighborhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
