First, I have to say, it is like a hotel (with resident sharing the facility) more than backpacker. So, adjust your expectation first, it is a place to stay more than a place to make friends in common area. They do have a common area, but not that kind of atmosphere, I am fine with it since I would rather... More

My boyfriend and I stayed in a 'semi-double' room at the Sakura and found it perfect for our 1st night on Tokyo: a great place to arrive, check in with ease, crash out for an hour to stave off jet-lag, chug down a coffee in the café and head out to see Tokyo. Well connected and v easy to get... More

The hotel had a friendly atmosphere from the start. It's handily located just around the corner from Jimbocho subway station and the lobby is small but serves drinks and snacks and staff are friendly. The whole place was spotlessly clean, rooms cleaned each day and clean yukatas and slippers in the rooms. Showers were shared but always clean and plenty... More

i booked the hotel really late and Jimbocho was the only one that approved most of my days in Japan, i went to my friends for a few nights between the dates they gave me... it was really easy to find from the train station! i was really surprised how easy it was! a great bonus:) the price is really... Apart from the size of the room (which could say that it's normal Tokyo standard), and the internet connection inside my (private) room, this place is very good. Sometimes there were other residents that didn't care much about others and were very loud after midnight. The staffs were friendly. The cafe on first floor was great. The atmosphere there was... This is a budget hotel, so the review is relative to the price compared to neighboring hotels. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, convenient, but cheap place, then the Sakura is fine. The staff were very helpful, and everything was clean, but cramped. If you are over 188 cm, then you might bump your head in the shower... More

Thank you very much for your comment about our hotel. Your explanation of subway system in Tokyo is also great. Although we consider ourselves that our location is very good, being located in the center of Tokyo, it is also true that the subway system in Tokyo is bits complicated even for Japanese people sometimes. Hoping we can be a... More

I stayed here for a week over the new years period in a dorm room. It was pretty cramped and the decor itself didn't feel too appealing but the bed itself was more comfortable than it looks, curtains are provided so you can have privacy. These things might not be appealing to some but since I was just interested in... More

We stayed here on our trip through Japan and I couldn't have asked for a better place. The staff was helpful and friendly, tasty/cheap foods available (most of it cooked in the cafe downstairs), clean rooms, social area, safe/quiet neighborhood and at a good price. It's everything you want when you're backpacking. Obviously the rooms are not large...but you are... More

This is principally a backpacker/budget hotel, so don't expect large rooms, extensive breakfasts, or private showers. HOwever, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and the showers are hot. It's close to Akihabara and other sights of Japan so you probably won't be staying in your room a lot anyway. Breakfast is tea and toast - the toasters need... More

Thank you very much for staying at our hotel and your warm comment. For location, we consider ourselves that our hotel has a good access to major spots in Tokyo. As for our hotel, we all staff are very happy to hear and see our guests enjoying their stay in our hotel and we always try the best for that.... More

I choose this hotel for one week stay, the staff was incredible, very friendly and helpful. The rooms and bathroom are properly cleaned and the blanket was very comfortable. The hotel has a smoking terrace. There is also a subway station 5 minutes walking from the hotel and the area is very safe and quiet.

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighborhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
