I liked this hotel quite a lot. My room was large enough to feel comfortable. Everything I needed such as toiletries, hair dryer, water cooker, ironing board was present. The bathroom was smallish but had all I needed and plenty of hot water. Wifi was on perfect working order. Personel was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is both for Western and... More

Forest Hongo is part of the Sunroute chain, but gives the impression of being a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel. I walked from JR Ueno Station to the Forest Hongo in about 20-25 minutes, via Kasuga and Hongo Avenues. After three nights at the Forest and two days at Tokyo University, I walked back to Ueno Station through the university campus and... More

I spent 5 nights at the quaint Forest Hongo in October, and it was a successful stay. The location is perfect, just across the street from Todai and a few minutes walk to Bunkyo Gakuin University. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I looked forward to the breakfast every morning--good fish, rice, miso, eggs, toast, coffee and tea. After busy... More

We stayed at the hotel for three nights. The hotel is situated on a tiny square, two minutes from the main gate of the Tokyo University, ten minutes from the metro. Rooms are good, quiet, and bathrooms really great. The breakfast is wonderful and provides excellent Japanese and European options.

I stayed at Forest Hongo in May 2014, for a conference I was attending at the University of Tokyo. So convenient--the hotel is literally just 100 m from the university gate, and only a few minutes' walk to the conference facility. The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. I found the hotel to be very clean and comfortable, although... More

Room size: large for Japanese standards. Location: very convenient if you are going to visit the Tokyo University (walking distance). Personnel: excellent English -- no communication issues. The breakfast is so-so...You have western and traditional Japanese options... Japanese breakfast could be a bit better. One minor problem: not easy to find if you arrive by subway. By taxi: no problems... More

Spacious hotel rooms (for Japan) one block back on a side street from the main entrance to the University of Tokyo, Hongo campus. Everything in excellent and sparkling condition, king size (western) bed, free WiFi, and even had a small refrigerator in room. The hotel provided separate printed instructions in English to operate AC, TV, etc. You need a map... More

This is a modestly priced hotel located very near to the University of Tokyo and about a 15 min walk to three different Metro stations. The room rate usually includes breakfast, which was OK (both Western and Japanese) but it was always the same (even the same background music). The room itself was large (by Japanese standards) but the bed... More

This hotel has a number of advantages. It is not very expensive, and quiet. Its is virtually next door to the main gates of the University of Tokyo. There are a number of small and fantastic little restaurants just at its doorstep. I tried Emma (on the street down to the university) and it was wonderful - arrive early as... More

There are 3 train stations that are within walking distances, its means the ease to access other parts of Tokyo. Just 10 minutes walk to the Tokyo University .The room is small but quite comfortable for us, with free internet access as well.you can rent a laptop here.

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighborhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
