So this was my first time out of the US and I came to Costa Rica through a volunteer group called Pretoma- look em up, great organization to volunteer with-which works with endangered marine life- specifically sea turtles- and also sharks, for those with diving experience. Pretoma has a location on playa San Miguel which is one of the beaches... More

The Flying Scorpion rocks! The place has a nice charm to it and makes you forget about the "real world chaos." Its nestled away far away from San Jose or most cities in Costa Rica. It is quite a trek to get there, but the lack of tourists and natural beach scenery is well worth it. A very large beach... More

Hard to keep this short. Burgers second to none. "Marbeth's salad". Pasta Arrabiata. Meatballs. Chicken parm. Veal parm. Penne with sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes. Pizzas! And to quote my wife: "We had to come all the way to Costa Rica for great sushi". Oh...and home-made ice cream. 'Nuff said.

The hotel is across the road from San Miguel: the other reviews explain what an amazing beach this is. Amanda and Rossi (the owners/managers) really made us feel at home.... More

I'm almost hesitant to review this place -- I don't want anyone to discover this "secret spot" -- but because I had such a great experience, and because the owner/manager is so endearing, I figured I should put in a few good words. This is a phenomenal surf spot, with great food, a friendly staff, and tons of interesting /... More

The Flying Scorpion is one of those places that you want to rave about and keep all to yourself at the same time. The perfect place to relax, meet some amazing people, enjoy outstanding home cooking, listen to great music, and soak in a little slice of paradise. After picking my cousin and I up at the Punta Islita airport,... More
