We weren't staying at the hotel but looking for somewhere to eat so dropped in. Wow! The food was excellent. A good choice of menus with some 'amuse boches' to get us started. Prawns and duck were both superbly cooked and presented. Staff were excellent, very attentive and between our Fench and their English we got by! We will come... More

Excellent menu, excellent food which certainly made up for so so bedroom. But the room price was very good so I shouldn't grumble. Oh yes. The wiffi is funded by adverts which you have to watch to get connected and will quickly close the link which was irritating. But again outstanding food … which is more important?

We stayed here one night on a trip South, It is more or less bang in the middle of France so a good resting point. The hotel has been refurbished in recent years and apparently has a pool but being the end of October and a brief stopover we did not get to see it. The room we had was... More

We popped into the Cheval Noire on Saturday, hadn't been there for some time, so decided to treat ourselves - good move. Once again, the food was EXCELLENT, Chef excelled. He has some wonderful ideas which he appears to execute with precision. Very well priced meal and the court yard is a lovely place to have lunch on a sunny... More

Having stayed here many years ago it made the perfect target for a lunch time stop. Situated just of the main street in this pretty little French town the restaurant (and hotel) are a welcome break from the motorway on the journey from SW to NE France. They have a good value priced lunch menu, with a choice of 3... More

An attractive building, friendly staff, and excellent food. But our recently refurbished bedroom had one major defect. The double bed was very narrow - I would guess 120cm or even less - much narrower than the fancy new headboard! I would advise twin beds after a long day's driving.

There are not many good places to stay on our regular long drives from the car ferry to the Pyrenees and this is our favourite, It is an old coaching in with rooms in a U-shape around a central courtyard where one can eat out in the evenings in summer. There are limitations as others have noted (disconcerting entrance, narrow... More

Stayed here as a stop over from the motorway. It was okay but not worth the 65 euros last minute walk in price. Looks quite appealing from the outside and better than it is on the inside. Inside the corridors are very dark and long which reminded me of corridors from The Shining. No natural light. Room was okay, clean,... More

We stayed here last week at the start of a cycling tour of Limousin. All the rooms are very thoughtfully decorated, sometimes on a theme. Our room was really lovely, with folk-art decorations, a huge shower and lots of hot water in a very nicely decorated bathroom, all tiles and pebbles. The room looked out over the courtyard and you... More

This is a 3 star hotel with character, rooms are basic but for a faimlu stopover with 2 adults and 2 children with breakfast for less than 100 € it was perfect. The restaurants in the square are a bit ropey and would eat in house. We didn't but food was 22€ for adults, so higher end.. But what you... More
