Called in here as my wife and myself were passing through the dales. I have never been met with such poor hospitality. The man behind the bar was very short and rude to us, it was if our being there was an inconvenience. The girl who was also working tried her best to make up for the bar mans rudeness, but... More

This is an awful review and I was appalled and humiliated when I read it. That said it must be recognised that Wensleydale, as are many similar places, is very very quiet in January and February. Many hotels and pubs close completely, others choose to substantially restrict their opening hours. Invariably the chef goes on leave as there is little... More

We stopped for an evening meal, the welcome was friendly in this typical rural establishment. The building is very old and a little draughty, that said we went in the snug which was very warm with it's open fire. The home made pies were excellent, the meat lean, well cooked and very generous in size.

Visited this pub which advertised they were serving food in afternoon on New Years Eve. Our party of five mature adults were very rudely treated and ignored. Gentleman(?) clearing tables accidentally bumped into me while he was stepping backwards and never apologised - in fact almost the contrary. We went into the front bar and there was nobody serving. Then... More

This was unfortunate and to the five individuals concerned I extend my humblest apologies. The second gentleman must have been the head chef who came down from the kitchen in the middle of the afternoon asking that food service be stopped so he could concentrate on cooking for the evening. Lunch had been very busy. Two large parties had taken... More

My husband and I decided to join another couple in spending New Years Eve in The Rose and Crown as we thought that it would be a nice change to have New Year in a lovely country pub. We expected that there would be live music on as the review stated that they had live bands, but there was no... More

I'm sure we all agree that it is important that reviews should be fair. I refer to review "Very Disappointing". The booking was made 29 December and they were allocated the only room left , Room 1. This is a room which we choose not to let out in the Winter because even though there are three radiators in the... More

This pub has had mixed reviews but as we were staying locally decided to give it a try. Glad we did. The staff were welcoming and the bars full of character. The menu has a good selection of options , including lots of home made pies. Husband tried lamb and mint pie which he said was good. I had one... More

We had food in the Rose and Crown whilst on holiday in Hawes with our 3 year old son. The man behind the bar was welcoming and made our son feel welcome. I have to admit we weren't expecting much from the food as my partner used toilets and said they weren't clean and the bar itself was a bit... More

Very old so the floors slope, the plumbing's a little strange... and there's a lot of construction outside. But the staff are super friendly and helpful, the food good (and plentiful) and the location and surrounding scenery are spectacular.

Called in for lunch. Very old building with atmosphere. Landlord mentioned 7 resident ghosts. My dog was made very welcome. We had pies, chips/potatoes and veg. Served quickly and plenty of it. Beer was good, sadly had no room for pudding. We will be visiting again.
