I found The Protea B&B via www search. My purpose was to visit the battlefields of WW1 to trace the footsteps of family members who served in AIF in Flanders. Alain and Annie were ideal hosts. it has been my first visit to continental Europe. Alain's tour in association with his preparatory research re my battalions of interest allowed me... More

The Protea B&B is just on the outskirts of Ypres and located in a prime position for visiting the Ypres Salient. Alain and Annie were fantastic hosts, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere from the off. I'm not one for clichés but we really were made to feel apart of their family. The B&B decor is vibrant and bright, with... More

While Annie quietly cultivates dignified care of guests, Alain is a very... More

The purpose of our visit was to take my 80 year old father to visit Ypres and see where his uncle fought and died in WW1. We found the Protea B&B ideal for our purposes. It was clean and very central and owners Alain and his wife really pulled out all the stops for us. If you are looking for... More

I booked on the basis that the proprietor provided conducted tours of the local WW1 sites and was not disappointed by the trip around some of the sites in the area. I decided not to hire a car whilst in Belgium so Alain, the proprietor, picked me up from Lille Europe station and I used the bicycles provided at the... More
