I think this is a nice pub but the rooms are very outdated and need a renovation. We stayed in the room downstairs which was pretty cold as radiators look ancient and took a while to get going. Bathroom clean but tiny and in need of renovation. Location is great for walking on the peaks and the price was fine.... More

It used to be the place to go for a lovely 'special' meal...what has happened to this place? We paid £17.50 for a steak with chips and salad. The steak had a texture of a worn carpet, the 'homemade' chips were frozen and over cooked. The field mushroom was so small it actually looked out of place and the 3 cold cherry... More

Stopped off for a bite to eat and admittedly it was a Sunday evening but the place was dead and cold. Ordered 2 roast dinners which arrived within minutes (not a good sign) and although there was nothing wrong with the food it would have been nice if it was warm. Oddly enough even the English mustard was without flavour... More

We have just had a wonderful break at the Sportsman and looking at the other reviews they seem very harsh. The food was really delicious, the staff were all friendly, the room was lovely though the bathroom a bit tired but for 2 nights it sufficed. Wonderful village and fantastic value for money. We had a ball! Jo & Dave

I've stayed here several times but have always felt that the Sportsman could have a lot more going for it if only there was some management effort to tighten up on the loose edges. It is not hopelessly bad - just a frayed at the edges . The accommodation, in particular the showers and toilet facilities and the room heating... More

We had a 2 night deal from ncrowd and wouldn't have wanted to pay more for our stay.It was very cold, dirty and badly in need of some TLC.We had room 4 with a tiny, shabby shower room with a dangerous 2 " high piece of wood across the door.We tripped every time we went in there.W C was along the corridor... the sportsman is a traditional pub going back in years yet offers proper hearty food. If you are looking for stay over with all mod cons and willing to pay £120per night this is may not be for you. Approx five minute walk from village , we stayed with groupon deal £69, including two course meal accom and breakfast great... More

My partner and i have just had a 2 night stay at the sportsman inn and have to say we enjoyed our stay. We bought a voucher for 2 nights b&b and a 3 course meal on the first night. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff and were immediately made to feel welcome. I have to agree... More

Myself and my partner have just stayed here for the bank holiday, amazing pub and stay for the price. Great value for money! The rooms are a bit dated but are clean. The shower is wet and warm which is luxury after a long walk or bike. The food... Well, what can I say!! It was soooooo good. Quite pricey... More

Just like the previous reviewers, we found the pub could do with some money spending on it - we also stayed in room 3, which was the smallest room we've ever stayed in. My first impression was 'Get me out of here!' but I'm glad we persisted. The bed was comfy and clean, and the evening meal was exceptional (though... More
