Spurred on by a recent article on Countryfile, we decided to visit Hayfield for some fresh air and a couple of days of walking in the beautiful Peak District. We decided to try The Royal as it had been featured on the programme and were pleasantly surprised by both the accommodation and the service. The hotel is situated right in... More

The Royal is a place we have visited many a time over the years. We have seen it go through its ups and downs. Recently it has had a shake up. A simple menu in the bar caters for all. there are a lot of walker using the place so hearty meals are the norm. There is now a separate... More

Called in to have a look around the hotel and found the staff and owners really welcoming. If I was so impressed I decided to book 5 nights later in the year, the rooms are great and I was advised about the front rooms as the church bells are loud and ring often. We had a really nice meal, although... More

Stayed at the Royal last weekend. Our first visit. Will not be the last. We generally judge accommodation by the bedrooms and these are superb. Was initially put off by some comments from previous visitors but on booking was assured that all the bedrooms have been totally refurbished down to new bed linens and towels. Not an exaggeration. Very tasteful... More

Myself and three family members found this place on a drive out today and decided to stop for lunch. The building looks lovely from the outside but isn't anything special on the inside. The pub was way too understaffed for a busy bank holiday Monday and as a result, it took much longer than it should have done to get... More

We were sorry to read of your experience here the other day. We were at times experiencing some delays due to the volume of food orders as we cook everything from fresh. As you observe, it was an incredibly busy bank holiday Monday. Apologies for the wait for your food and the fact your fish finger butty arrived without tartare... More

Stayed at the Royal on a Saturday night just wanting a relaxing break. The room we were shown to was obviously recently refurbished to a lovely standard with tasteful decor and fittings. Had a super meal in the comfortable and atmospheric bar area, great selection of cask beers. All the staff were excellent despite being very busy and the whole... More

Good selection of beers and restaurant quality food. Large car park to the front and good outdoor seeting. This is a good location at the foot of kinder scout for those who enjoy a walk, the village cricket ground is situated next to the hotel for those wanting to sit and relax. My only criticism is the bar area was... More

We've stopped at this hotel several times and absolutely love it. The facilities are great and the rooms spacious and welcoming. The staff are very friendly and the breakfasts wonderful, especially the porridge, which they'll make specially if you ask. excellent value for money and would definitely recommend staying here.
