The choice of real ales in the bar was broad and the service was quick and friendly when taking the order. The menu was full of options, however due to being on bikes we wanted only a light bite so I chose a ham and piccalilli sandwich on brown bread and my friend ordered brie and bacon sandwich on brown... Many thanks for your feedback and I have alerted waiting-on staff to be more alert to ensuring the entire food order is delivered (did no soup arrive at all?) and that salt and pepper are made available. I am surprised you found our ham lacking in taste, however. This is locally sourced ham and we get a lot of positive... More

Thank you for your feedback and sorry you did not enjoy your fish & chips when you visited us recently. Please be assured we only ever use fresh fish, never frozen, and to ensure it stays nice and moist we try never to overcook our fish. This is one of our most popular and oft complimented pub classics and I... More

The staff helped us up to our room with our bags and showed us around. The hotel suite was immaculate with a stunning four poster bed and quality bedding plenty... More

As the title indicates, we had a fantastic time at the Royal over the Christmas period. The rooms were immaculate, beds comfortable and plenty of tea/coffee making supplies. The bar areas and restaurant are lovely, retaining many original features.

Sunday lunch in front of a big open fire on a cold but sunny dày. Nice atmosphere with a mixture of diners and drinkers and walkers. My wife ànd I had a pleasant lunch, Tom soup, pate then mains roast beef and roast pork with nicely cooked veg (not soggy). Puddings, creme brulee and bread and butter pudding with custard.... More

We've just got back from a 2 night stay and everything about it was great! I love the coziness of the pub area - lots of little snug areas with roaring fires. The menu was extensive, the portions plentiful and tasted lovely. The service was always quick and efficient. We were in Hayfield on a walking break, so the special... More
