Enjoyed the food and the friendly ambience here. Dogs more than welcome in the bar. Ham sandwich was really tasty and chips to die for. Was so pleasantly surprised. Men smoking outside the front door rather spoil the outside if you wish tomwin out and eat though.

What a lovely hotel. Our room was fabulous and the service outstanding. The rooms have been beautifully renovated and the beds like sleeping on a cloud. The linens are as fresh as spring garden. There is a great drying room for walkers and the breakfast will be a nice start to your day.

Spent new years eve here! The food was excellent. ...could not fault at all...the singer was great...we thought it was a cd at first she sang a good variety of music for all ages...the tables weren't close together and there was plenty of room which is surprising for a new years eve...Some of the locals brought there dogs which I... We stayed here twice, at the beginning and end of a 9 day walk. Our first room was superb - comfortable and updated with an excellent bath and plenty of hot water. Thrilled, we booked for a second stay at the hotel but this time (when we really looked forward to a warm bath), our en suite bathroom had only... More

on a birthday trip to Derbyshire, we stay`d two nights in the Royal Hotel. It was a lovely, characterful building, with an olde worldy oak panel`d bar. The food was tasty, and plentiful. The choice of real ale, ample...and it was well kept. The staff were friendly, and the locals welcoming. The room was on the first floor, looking out... More

Hotel with great character, that has a comfortable and relaxed feel. Used as the central location for the filming of the BBC's 'The Village'. The newly refurbished rooms were excellent, though our shower was not as powerful as it looked! The large bar is surrounded on 3 sides with different 'zones', each with their own unique ambiance. The choice of... More

Thanks to Lisa and the staff our group of two families had a lovely stay... Bedrooms were comfortable and very well appointed. The food and beer were all excellent. The village is great with plenty of shops and stunning walks and easy access to Hioe valley where the kids loved walks and caves. We will most definitely be back!

The choice of real ales in the bar was broad and the service was quick and friendly when taking the order. The menu was full of options, however due to being on bikes we wanted only a light bite so I chose a ham and piccalilli sandwich on brown bread and my friend ordered brie and bacon sandwich on brown... Many thanks for your feedback and I have alerted waiting-on staff to be more alert to ensuring the entire food order is delivered (did no soup arrive at all?) and that salt and pepper are made available. I am surprised you found our ham lacking in taste, however. This is locally sourced ham and we get a lot of positive... More

We called for lunch in Hayfield and pulled in at the Royal Hotel. The bar area was quite busy with locals and we were soon served with drinks and our order taken. We both ordered the fish and chips and I have to say we were both very disappointed.Half the plate was taken up with salad garnish while the fish, which was deep... Thank you for your feedback and sorry you did not enjoy your fish & chips when you visited us recently. Please be assured we only ever use fresh fish, never frozen, and to ensure it stays nice and moist we try never to overcook our fish. This is one of our most popular and oft complimented pub classics and I... More

We stayed here whilst attending a nearby wedding. The Hotel has ample parking and outside seating. Inside was lovely cosy with lots of private nooks and a large central bar. The staff helped us up to our room with our bags and showed us around. The hotel suite was immaculate with a stunning four poster bed and quality bedding plenty... More
