We've just got back from a weekend away for my husbands birthday and it was beautiful. We arrived at the hotel and was greeted by a very friendly member of staff who took us to our fantastic room with the four poster bed and the bottle of wine that I had ordered. The room was very clean and tastefully furnished... More

Stopped for lunch, bar was busy with most tables there for lunch. A good menu, pies were the specials, good choice of sandwiches and well priced. Fish finger sandwiches were really lovely, fresh and homemade fish fingers -yum! Liked the chips too - served in a little basket. Also had the cheese and onion pie, again a good taste to... More

Visited Hayfield and 1 night at The Royal. The rooms were lovely, recently refurbished and we were made welcome by the bar staff. We were visiting friends nearby so didn't eat in the restaurant although breakfast was good. Hayfield is used for the TV programme The Village and is worth a visit. Nice coffee shop Callico with delicious cakes. We... More

We stopped here on the way home from a break. While I had been there years ago this was the first time for food. It was excellent. I had a corned beef pie that was perfect. The only problem was the gravy on the salad. Why does everyone put gravy on salad? I will never understand it. If there has... More

Spurred on by a recent article on Countryfile, we decided to visit Hayfield for some fresh air and a couple of days of walking in the beautiful Peak District. We decided to try The Royal as it had been featured on the programme and were pleasantly surprised by both the accommodation and the service. The hotel is situated right in... More

The Royal is a place we have visited many a time over the years. We have seen it go through its ups and downs. Recently it has had a shake up. A simple menu in the bar caters for all. there are a lot of walker using the place so hearty meals are the norm. There is now a separate... More

Called in to have a look around the hotel and found the staff and owners really welcoming. If I was so impressed I decided to book 5 nights later in the year, the rooms are great and I was advised about the front rooms as the church bells are loud and ring often. We had a really nice meal, although... More

Myself and three family members found this place on a drive out today and decided to stop for lunch. The building looks lovely from the outside but isn't anything special on the inside. The pub was way too understaffed for a busy bank holiday Monday and as a result, it took much longer than it should have done to get... More

We were sorry to read of your experience here the other day. We were at times experiencing some delays due to the volume of food orders as we cook everything from fresh. As you observe, it was an incredibly busy bank holiday Monday. Apologies for the wait for your food and the fact your fish finger butty arrived without tartare... More
