The food was very good. The room was fine except for one thing: there wasn't a power socket in the bathroom or near it. The only ones were behind the bed and beneath the table with the tea and coffee making facilities. Excellent location to do some walking in the area around Kinder Scout.

Car park a bit of a trek to the pub, very dark and uneven. Menu varied.Cauliflower and Broccoli and Stilton soup brilliant.Smoked Haddock, egg and Hollandaise sauce superb as was Scampi. Steak Pie served with disgusting salty strong overpowering gravy which spoilt the meal.Steak was a bit like Chum ! Pleasant staff.

As a couple we recently stayed at a farm cottage near Kinder Scout in Derbyshire as part of a cycling holiday in The Peak District. Although we were self catering we also wanted to find a Pub/Restaurant within reasonable walking distance. The George was recommended to us by the farm owner. On our first visit there was no table available... More

Visited the George hotel 2 weeks ago with my mother and auntie. We visit hayfield quite regularly as we only live a few miles away in Cheshire. The village BBC drama is set in hayfield so after watching the new series on tv we decided to pay a visit. We usually eat at one of the many pubs in the... More

We're having a problem writing this review because the food was great but the accommodation not so. We'd recommend eating here - we had a lovely breakfast and dinner with good service in a restaurant and bar area that has been partly refurbished. The accommodation though was very small and dated and needed a good deep clean. But then again... More

We stayed here for one night in July before we walked Kinder Scout the next day. The pub was quaint and although we did not eat here the food looked quite good. The issue was the hotel room we stayed in. The decor was 1980's and the cleanliness was far below an acceptable standard. The bedroom walls were patterned artex,... More

I am not normally one to write gushing reviews about places i have stayed (and i do stay in a lot through work) but i really do have to make an exception for this hotel. My wife and i stayed here overnight (26th to the 27th July) as we wanted to take in some of the walks in the area.... More

Me and my partner just had dinner (sat 8pm) we both had the mixed grill and it was Divine. Ribeye (cook to your liking), gammon, chicken, sausage, black pudding, tomatoes, onion rings, mushrooms & chips. The pub is clean and tidy with a warm welcome. The toilets are in desperate need of a refurbishment. The only thing that bugged me... More

We stayed overnight in this rambling old pub in the pretty little village of Hayfield. Comfortable room with everything in it that we would require. Were slightly worried as our room was very near the bar and we thought it might be noisy, but it wasn't as the room was sound proofed. Very decent breakfast served in the morning, fruit... More
