The place felt like a home should. Warm, friendly and a log fire. For the price I was surprised at the good quality of the accommodation and breakfast. I also ate evening meal in the bar area which was very good. I had a look around the town and found only 2 other pubs, both of which were not as... More

Had a long walk over the kinder scout and came back to car park and found this place by chance. Good menu to choose from and prices are great. Warm fire. Service with a smile also. We were also allowed to bring our dogs into a particular area which was nice as well. Locals very friendly. Definitely go back if... More

I'm the Saturday the 15th we visited the george hotel and was greeted by the young and helpful staff, which considering when we visited to the other local pubs the staff were nothing but helpful, we only went in for a drink this night but knew we'd come back and try the food. On the 19th we returned and once... More

The landlord discrimates people with disabilities and alcohol issues even though his wife is alcoholic. He was very abrupt took my money by card transaction and when I went to my room several minutes later the landlord started hammering on my door and told me I had to leave. When asked why he said because I got a drink problem.... More

This review has been posted by a person who has been barred from entering these premises on their own for a couple of years due to certain hygiene issues involving the toilet area of this establishment. I have allowed him to dine if accompanied by another adult. On this occasion he booked into a room via a member of staff... More

It has competition from other hostelries in Hayfield yet still outshines them due to its staff, who are courteous, friendly and helpful - and its food which is well priced, varied and consistently good. I missed out on the Bramley apple pork sausages on a bed of cheddar and chive mash as lucky people had eaten them all before we... More

We picked The George as its location allowed us to do a day walk in the Peak District. It also offered a good price and good reviews. We were not disappointed. The room, although quite small with a tight bathroom, was comfortable and clean. The bed was excellent. Being a pub, The George, offered a full bar and a decent... More

Had dinner with the family twice during our stay in a another local B&B. First night was great the waiter/barman could not have been more helpful, (we even bumped into him the next day in the village, and he gave us more helpful tips). Really enjoyed the food (sufficient vegetarian options) Only thing was that my children ordered pesto pasta,... More

Eaten here in the evening and quite impressed with what we got for a very reasonable price. The George is part of a pub chain with I guess a very standardised menu and largely pre-prepared food. This does not, however, detract from it being a very nice pub and the food being tasty ,hot, and good value. Service on the evening... More

Bed very noisy and uncomfortable Room appeared to have been cleaned in a rush, sink and taps dirty, drink spillage on ledge going upstairs, excess dust on skirting boards and mildew on windows. Waitress served us breakfast whilst cleaning bar area, including washing the floor. Did not think this very hygienic. Meal was good in bar and also good breakfast.

Only used this place for dinner and did not stay. Friendly cooperative staff attended to us as we had not booked on a Saturday evening and they found us a good table. The dishes were wholesome without being anything other than that. The salads were a little uninteresting with very standard salad ingredients. But the wine and beer was good... More
