I normally stay in older 2 star hotels for their character, but the Tulle Mercure was only 63 euros, so I tried it for the excellent location. It is basically an expensive business chain, so the rooms are comfortable, reasonable in size, with excellent baths. The staff are friendly and helpful.

I specifically asked for a room facing the front, overlooking the river (which is more like a canal running through the city), with a view of the old town. The windows and walls are excellent for keeping out noise, and having a large balcony was nice.

The location, in the main heart of the vielle ville is good, although it's about a mile from the gare. The long boulevard leading from the station to town is very nice, if you like old cities.

There is not much too see in Tulle. I went for the June 9th ceremony for the Martyrs of the Resistance, which is very moving. more
