As previous reviewers have said, the location of this YHA is excellent and it is a lovely old building. For that I would give full marks. My friend has been several times and said the hostel is looking more run down on each visit. Certainly there were things not working in the kitchen and lights not working in the lounge.... More

A great weekend break helped by the friendly staff at the hostel. I was pleasantly surprised having not been to a YH for over 30 years. No chores, good food, friendly staff and even waited on at breakfast. The manager commented that it was like a big house where you had lots of mates to stay and it genuinely had... More

The building iwas an old school and is just by the coast and has a shop cafe and pub within walking distance - mind you the pub is a bit rubbish the Albion. Didn't eat at the yha catered kitchen so can't comment on that and whilst the self catering kitchens are cramped it still was still well equiped. The... More

This hostel is a former girls boarding school and is a lovely quirky building. My room (a female dorm of 7 beds) was Room 8 and it overlooked estuary and faced west so we got the evening sun. Hostel is very quiet and in a very nice residential area. Beds and bedding are clean and comfy and the hostel seemed... More

Recently stayed here for a weekend. Beautiful old building, lots of charm. Grounds are lovely, great space to sit with the picnic benches. Excellent location to access the town, beach, hill walks & train etc. The food was good, staff were friendly & its peaceful, so I managed to sleep well. I love the fact that you can choose up... We had booked 2 nights but stayed for 4. Very helpful staff and lots of info about local walks and bus and train travel We did a day trip to the Lake District by car and to Liverpool by train. Lancaster is even closer. Facilities would be enhanced with a WiFi connection available to clients - preferably free. Showering was... More

Arnside does rather encourage you to linger a little longer. I just came here for the season 28 years ago! We would love to offer free WiFi - YHA does listen to their guests so it should be on the way. Sorry about the enforced dancing in the showers to keep the lights on, but pleased you otherwise had an... More

We had the 2 person "Porters Room" - bunk bed for 2 plus sink/shower room which was great for us. We had the hostel meals which I thought were very good. We particularly liked the flexibility of the breakfast menu where you could specify substitutions !!! The hostel staff were A1 .. very helpful. As usual with a hostel the... More

Unbeatable location overlooking the bay, quiet road, decent-sized dormitories and real hot showers. Friendly and comfortable feel to the place, and it's 'green' without being intrusive on a holidaymaker's convenience. Food's good too, although I took my own. In short, whether you're going further on to the Lakes or looking for a quieter area with some seaside thrown in, you... More

great location, a short walk to the beach down a lovely little track at the end of the garden, which has wooden picnic type tables/chairs and looks out toward the water - through the tree's so the water may not be visible from garden when leaves are on the tree's. I hear some rooms have a great view, the view... More

Thank you for the interesting, useful and positive review. Just a mention on the tide - if guests want to visit to see the infamous tidal bore, do give us a call first for tide times and a bore forecast. The tide is a very variable beast and can easily disappoint. Speaking of disappointments - sorry to hear about the... More
