Warning - the 'warm welcome' is dependent on you keeping you mobile switched on during your arrival day in case Lesley has forgotten what time you said you would arrive and needs to check (she has to come in specially as she lives elsewhere). Even that may not be enough, as we found to our discomfort, as Lesley had left... More

I have just retuned from a 2 night stay at Number 43, and have nothing but praise for the place. The location in Arnside is excellent with good access to the Lake Districts main sights. I have stayed all around the world in B&B's, apartments and "Fancy Hotels" etc. and Number 43 is right up there with the best of... More

Just returned from a night here on our way to meet friends in the Lakes. This B&B is amazing! It's in a great location, making it really easy to have a long walk along the promenade and the edge of the estuary. The décor throughout the property is beautiful and I particularly liked the glass wall decorations and room numbers.... More

This was our fourth stay at Number 43 and once again everything was faultless. We had suite 7 overlooking the estuary. The room was spotless on arrival and the en-suite bathroom was gleaming. Our host, Lesley, and her staff could not have done more for us - nothing is too much trouble and it is evident that they want you... More

We went for a suite. Well, it was a large(ish) bedroom with extra furniture (including a none too comfy sofa) and a good en-suite bathroom. Great location with wonderful view across the estuary.......from the bedroom and bath! A very nice welcome, excellent breakfast served in the room and a comfortable communal lounge which was surplus to our requirements. Parking is... More

From the moment we were met by our wonderful host, Lesley, to the moment we left nothing was too much trouble for her and our every need was attended too. Suite No 2 is luxury itself. Thank you so much for sending such a lovely review and making time to write between your wedding and going on honeymoon. Arnside's micro climate worked, the sun shone all day and you all looked stunning and very happy, sitting on the terrace and enjoying the sunset was a relaxing way to end such a lovely but hectic day. I... More

Thank you so much for taking time to write a review, I am sorry Number 43 did not come up to your expectations, I am really sorry that you had dirty cutlery that is absolutely unforgivable, also the servicing of your room was not of an acceptable standard, not only to you, but also to me.. Please please why did... More

We enjoyed two nights at Number 43 over Christmas and it proved to be as magical as Christmas itself. We'd read excellent reviews before we booked and we weren't disappointed. We had two rooms - a larger room at the front for my husband and I and a twin room at the rear for our teenage sons - and both... More

It was lovely to meet you all too, I am so pleased you enjoyed spending Christmas at Number 43, having a policy of not putting our prices up or tying guests in to a package hopefully gave you flexibility and relaxation. I hope that you had a good trip back home to Australia and managed to avoid the heat of... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Last night at The Enjoy England for Excellence Ceremony we were awarded Gold for the Best Bed and Breakfast in England by Visit England. The position here is fabulous: a vast sky, a pretty village, the Kent estuary spilling into Morcambe Bay. Huge views shoot off to the Lake District, where distant peaks take to the skies. You're at the end of the road, more likely to be disturbed by commuting birds than a car, so sit on the terrace and watch the train puff across the viaduct or follow a flock of geese as they sweep through the valley. As for Number 43, interiors shine after a total renovation. You get glossy books and great views in the sitting room, then an honesty bar in the dining room, where delicious communal breakfasts set you up for the day: freshly squeezed orange juice, baskets of patisserie, porridge with honey and sugar, the full Cumbrian works. Bedrooms vary in size, but all are elegant with warm colours, fabulous linen, excellent beds, sparkling bathrooms. Two suites have the view, one has a free-standing bath by the window in its en-suite. ... more   less
