This is by far the best place I have stayed at in this part of the world. A lot of attention has gone into the interior design and overall, it feels like a modern, very comfortable, relaxing and friendly place to stay. I had Room 4 which doesn't face the sea and so doesn't have a view. The room itself... More

Just returned from two nights at no.43. What a perfect B&B this is with Lesley the owner, being on hand from arrival to departure to welcome and assist you in every way. We had room 2 with magnificent views over the bay, very spacious with fab large bath under the window. Our room was well furnished and extremely clean as... More

We found Number 43 through the Further Afield website and loved the place. Lesley was very welcoming and was a great host. We stayed on two different nights in Suite 2 which was a good as the photos on the website suggest. Food at The Albion good too - suitable for both lunch and dinner. You wouldn't want to go... More

We had Suite 2 for 2 nights and it was a delight. The views were lovely and we spent a lot of time watching the birds on the bay from our window. We had breakfast in our room which was lovely with a good choice - not just the normal bacon and egg. The bathroom had a powerful shower and... More

..and we are looking forward to seeing you again! We aim to please with breakfast and look like we succeeded, all our produce, from locally caught and smoked haddock to our free range eggs, Peters Wild Boar or Cumberland sausage, not forgetting his back bacon or 'Mores?' We were looking for a lovely B&B stay for a weekend which was not far from Capenwray where we were heading for on the Sunday morning. We came across Number 43 and were immediately drawn to it. After a friendly telephone conversation with Lesley we decided we would book our 2 nights stay. We were not disappointed. We were met... More

Warning - the 'warm welcome' is dependent on you keeping you mobile switched on during your arrival day in case Lesley has forgotten what time you said you would arrive and needs to check (she has to come in specially as she lives elsewhere). Even that may not be enough, as we found to our discomfort, as Lesley had left... More

I do not usually respond to so directly, but rudeness both to my face and on line is not the way I was brought up, after all you were a guest in my home, let’s get the facts straight: I do not live elsewhere, although I do not live in the main building I live in 43’s annex 30 yards... More

I have just retuned from a 2 night stay at Number 43, and have nothing but praise for the place. The location in Arnside is excellent with good access to the Lake Districts main sights. I have stayed all around the world in B&B's, apartments and "Fancy Hotels" etc. and Number 43 is right up there with the best of... More

Just returned from a night here on our way to meet friends in the Lakes. This B&B is amazing! It's in a great location, making it really easy to have a long walk along the promenade and the edge of the estuary. The décor throughout the property is beautiful and I particularly liked the glass wall decorations and room numbers.... More

This was our fourth stay at Number 43 and once again everything was faultless. We had suite 7 overlooking the estuary. The room was spotless on arrival and the en-suite bathroom was gleaming. Our host, Lesley, and her staff could not have done more for us - nothing is too much trouble and it is evident that they want you... More

We went for a suite. Well, it was a large(ish) bedroom with extra furniture (including a none too comfy sofa) and a good en-suite bathroom. Great location with wonderful view across the estuary.......from the bedroom and bath! A very nice welcome, excellent breakfast served in the room and a comfortable communal lounge which was surplus to our requirements. Parking is... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Last night at The Enjoy England for Excellence Ceremony we were awarded Gold for the Best Bed and Breakfast in England by Visit England. The position here is fabulous: a vast sky, a pretty village, the Kent estuary spilling into Morcambe Bay. Huge views shoot off to the Lake District, where distant peaks take to the skies. You're at the end of the road, more likely to be disturbed by commuting birds than a car, so sit on the terrace and watch the train puff across the viaduct or follow a flock of geese as they sweep through the valley. As for Number 43, interiors shine after a total renovation. You get glossy books and great views in the sitting room, then an honesty bar in the dining room, where delicious communal breakfasts set you up for the day: freshly squeezed orange juice, baskets of patisserie, porridge with honey and sugar, the full Cumbrian works. Bedrooms vary in size, but all are elegant with warm colours, fabulous linen, excellent beds, sparkling bathrooms. Two suites have the view, one has a free-standing bath by the window in its en-suite. ... more   less
