This is a great place to stay. I came here in late February for 3 nights, mainly for bird photography, after spending 6 nights at the coast. It's a long but interesting journey by minibus (2) and boats(2) and we arrived on the Lady Hippo after dark to a warm welcome and some great Gambian cooking by Binta. We were... More

I can't really add much more to the 2 reviews before this one. Bird Safari Camp is a lovely experience, the river trip to get to the camp, the o/n in Tendaba camp and the people at the camp itself. I agree that the tents, half canvas and half brick with a royal throne room! are fantastic to stay in.... More

We stayed here as part of a trip organised by Mark, the owner. It's well worth the trip, and I'd really recommend you come by boat. Mark organises it all and it's very well put together. The trip up river involves two minibuses and two boats (one solar powered), but it all worked like clockwork for us and the staff... More

Booked 2 week Gambia trip through Hidden Gambia - because I was travelling on my own, was new to the Gambia but wanted to try different areas and wanted the convenience. Stayed Safari Lodge in Fakara 3 nights, 5 night trip up river with Hidden Gambia (with o/n stop at Tendabi camp on the way up and 4 nights at... More

This is a great base for all sorts of activities. You can take your pick depending on your interests ... a bit of Gambian cookery, some lovely river trips, a visit to the Senegambian stone circles, owl-spotting with Ibrahim, our talented local guide. Why only four stars? Well, the atmosphere at the camp was rather flat as for two of... More

From being collected from our hotel to being delivered back to the coast, our time at Bird Safari Camp was quite unique. We travelled 200 miles - by road and then boat up the Gambia river, seeing birds, chimpanzees and monkeys on the lush riverbanks, arriving at the island camp at dusk. We stayed in comfy, spacious tents overlooking the... More

We stayed there for 5 nights it was great fun. The river trip to get there was most enjoyable, the mini bus part less so. Mark and the staff look after you exceptionally well. The food was good. We went on day break bird watching walks, fishing from the jetty and by boat. Trips on the river hippo spotting, we... More

It might be many miles up the river but when you arrive at the camp Mark ensures all those miles of travelling are worthwhile by 'going the extra mile' himself to make stays there very enjoyable. The 'tent' we stayed in was much better than we thought it would be (I don't think the website does it justice). There were... More

My wife and I (and 2 other couples) spent 4 nights at the BSC. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a fantastic time there. The journey up river from the coast was mostly by solar powered boat, the Solar Queen, which comfortably held 9 tourists and a couple of staff and Mark, the owner. We saw plenty of birds,... More

I stayed here for three nights with my 14 year old son. We loved it. There was no pressure upon us to do anything in particular, but plenty to do if you wanted. We swam in the river, walked into George Town, fished, and went in search of hippo's- which was fantastic. We located several, then went up river on... More
