We enjoyed the food the best. Everyone at our table (8 persons) had different requests because we do not eat everything. No creams, milk etc. and no bread for another one and the waitress was so good to make suggestions to sort out our allergy problems. The food ....especially the fish was fantastic. Fresh and nice presented. Drinks served nice... More

We stayed at Paternoster hotel early May 2014. The management of the hotel were very matter of fact and did the absolute basics when we checked in .We then read the hotel guide and have never seen a hotel with more rules and regulations - felt we were back in boarding school. For example - no tv remote control in... More

My husband and i stayed here for 2 nights during our honeymoon road trip. Our room was really lovely, newly decorated and we had a balcony that over looked the sea. The food in the restaurant was nice but maybe need more staff as there are a lot of tables(the staff were also lovely). The Panty Bar was an eye... More

We visited the restaurant for a meal of fishcakes with rice. It tasted strange, and was quite unpleasant. The burger was also plain and unmemorable. To top it off, we had the worst service from a waitor who would rather point at the menu than speak, appears without a word, no greeting or smile, forgets to bring the round of... More

Hotel improved on decor, but not on service. Rooms are large and comfortable. Large and cosy. Beware on main road, therefore you get pestered by children and read the warning about safety. Also be beware, breakfast is not included - except of one item. Only Hotel in South Africa, where you have to pay for breakfast extras.

Sometimes it is simply great if things don't change too much over time. Mentioned the hotel elsewhere but thought worth sharing this note for visitors (especially international ones!). In the politically turbulent 1980s, as a student, first visited Paternoster, pretty much dead-poor. Owner Johan Carossini gave us accommodation in a caravan parked next to the hotel, it cost practically nothing.... More

I am on my own in Paternoster and of course looking for the famous seafood everyone talks about in this town. My Boutique 5 star guest house had nothing, so I had to drive to this little throwback for a delicious meal and wonderful true South African service. Thank you for proving that there is delicious food in this town.... More

We had some nice fish and chips here. The waitress was honest and told us what was good and bad (ie what fish was tough and dry) Quite refreshing in this day and age. Service is however fairly average. The most interesting part was watching all the local activities / bargaining on the other side of the road from our... More

This is a great place to have a meal and watch the world go by on the main road of this little seaside town:) The adjoining bar is buzzing...inside the hotel there's lots of art to admire as well as a pretty shell shop which sells jewellery and decorative stuff made from shells.

We like Paternoster and quite enjoy staying in this small hotel. It's not a Plastic Palace, it has its very own unique character. The staff are usually good fun people although the Panty Bar guys on duty this week were a bit cold. When I was there earlier this week, I was really surprised to find people in this bar,... More
