Oppidraii-house has big space and a huge terrace with beautiful look at the ocean. Mildew in the shower, dirt and dust in the drawers, no pilows on the lawn chair, malfunctioned hot-water and hairdryer were not nice. All in all it looks old-fashioned.

I an e-mail directly to Abalone House reception, I have cautioned on the nasty smell in the two en-suite bathrooms. A murky smell of mould which was not really becoming a luxury accomodation. And it didn't disappear although we used both bathrooms so it wasn't caused by staying empty for a prolonged period. In the morning, quite a few cockroaches... More

Quiet and comfortable just like the town. Beautiful sunsets and great restaurants close buy. Exploring the West Coast and using this as a base is perfect. Difficult to find the premises and the booking didn't make it clear where to pick up the keys or check in.

very nice , clean and perfect place to stay. feeling that it is a bit out priced for the south african market. i would like to visit again for longer if the rate was more market related. very nice town and people are friendly.

The cottages are very sweet, good views, excellent beds, and very clean. But they are in need of quite a few repairs. Doors didn't lock, handles broke off, and shutters almost unable to close. The food at Abalone House Hotel was EXCELLENT, and the staff charming.

The cottage itself is absolutely beautifully decorated and restored and well equipped. However the location is disastrous being mid the lowest possible cultural and behavioural setting, the township. Night long drinking and ramping and raving, fighting and screaming every night is not what I would choose to endure and pay for it. No sorry, this cannot be offered to a... More

Dear Wynand, we would like to refer to your post on Abalone House’s TripAdvisor page titled “Unsurpassed Hospitality”. Your original reservation for Kliphuisie through Hotels.com was a discounted long stay reservation. Your approached manager Leigh after your first night at Kliphuisie, stating that you felt uncomfortable staying at Kliphuisie, where after she immediately set about finding an alternate solution for... This place has so much potential, but has clearly been neglected. Dirty rooms, partly stocked kitchen (cutlery etc), broken geyser and a indoor braai area (which looks lovely on pictures) that fills the air with black smoke. Really expected more.

For me it was a let down, the wind blew the doors rattled, the locals were literally running a shebeen at your doorstep, we felt unsafe, I had great expectations but it did not work for me I took my family to celebrate my birthday but felt unsafe

Thank you for your review. Paternoster is a fishing village and we are extremely proud of our local community. We understand that this might not be to everybody's taste, hence our marketing of the Kliphuisie unit stating clearly that this is a cultural experience living amongst the locals in a restored fisherman's cottage. We can assure you that there certainly... More

We had the pleasure of staying at the Seaside Cottage 1 for our last part of our honeymoon. It was exactly what we were looking for; a place to unwind and do absolutely nothing. The good: The place has two braai areas, one inside by the lounge and one outside by the pool. Its 150 meters down to the beach... More
