We had a good nights stay in this centrally located hotel in Rhens on the Rhine. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. A plus point was that tea making facilities were provided in the room so it made it home from home and unusual for Germany. In fact it was the only hotel in a 7 day walking trip... More

I've been a frequent, albeit irregular visitor to Rhens and the wonderful family at the Roter Ochse for more than a decade. From the first visit in 2003 to the most recent in 2014, the warmth, sincerity and hospitality of the welcome is first class. A genuinely good provincial hotel, and all that suggests in a positive way, with simple... More

The beds were the most comfortable of my three weeks in Germany. The decor was classy, and the rooms comfortable. The owner's father hunts wild boar and such, and the menu reflects that...I wish we had tried the food here, but we arrived after dinner time. The location is excellent. The town of Rhens is small, but quite beautiful...one of... More

Amazing hotel, such a friendly couple who tend to every need and the atmosphere is amazing. 5 minute walk away from the river Rhine and in a great location to get around in the part of Germany where the hotel is situated. Great beers and food.

Traveled recently through the Rhine area with my parents and husband and stayed at the Roter Ochse. We have traveled a lot in Europe, and this is one of our best experiences. The rooms were newly renovated and very comfortable, the restaurant at the hotel was convenient, delicious, and well priced, and the staff repeatedly went above and beyond to... More

We spent one night here while walking the Rhine. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, our room comfortable and the food was excellent. There was a much better than average variety of food offered at breakfast. It was a dull, and rainy morning but the glassed in area of the dining room was bright and cheerful. The self serve... We stayed here for one night while walking the Middle Rhein. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, giving us extra advice about the route for our next days walk. The rooms were very well appointed, with modern decor and a great stylish bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in room, which is extremely rare in Germany! Dinner... More

We were staying in the accommodation across the road from the hotel. We were quite excited when seeing the outside as it is a very beautiful traditional building but the inside is very shabby and basic, it felt a bit like a hostel. The hotel itself was very nice, the staff were friendly and the food was tasty.

This hotel is convenient, nothing more, nothing less. The rooms are quite outdated and the some furnitures should be replaced. However, this staff is friendly and even if they do not speak English, they will try to do their best to help you. The restaurant's food is better and they even have meals with their own animals. The parking is... More

Thank you for your review! You might have seen that there have been a lot of renewings in the hotel e.g. the conservatory and the beergarden. We are afraid that it is not possible to do and afford it all at once :(. But we have started working on the rooms again in September and renewed also furniture and bathroom.... More
