There are few hotels we were able to find in Bandarawela, But I think this is the best among those. Old colonial type hotel. cant say its cheap. Food is average. Restaurant staff is friendly and helpful. There were prepared separate food for my kid. I travel with my wife/son and friend's family, even I did the booking 3 weeks... More

Bandarawela Hotel is for those who wish to experience going back in time. The old decor and furnishings add atmosphere and is lovely. I liked the lounge area with the fire-place and the welcome tea that was served in sorbet glasses. The rooms have old wooden furniture with the wash basins in the room and the bathrooms, with the old-fashioned... More

Not everyone will like this hotel, probably the young, (eg. see elze) because the plumbing and electrics are straight out of the 1950s, and the iron bedsteads possibly earlier. Nevertheless it has spacious and clean basic rooms. I loved it because of its colonial charm. The public areas (bar, lounge, dining room etc) are wood panelled, and the staff dress... More

The hotel looks very nice, but everything is very very old. The beds are terrible ( very lumpy) the pillow is also terrible. The restaurant looks very nice, diner is okay but simple. During breakfast, we were one of the last people tot have breakfast that day, they were polishing the floor. This smelt terrible during our breakfast. There was... More

Stayed at the Bandarawela Hotel in February 2012. What a quaint place - founded in 1893. It once served as an hospital during the last war. So much nostalgia - comparable to the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya, which is of the same ilk but more salubrious! The room was very comfortable and the dining facilities were good and very... More

The hotel is just the perfect place for time travellers. The building is quite old, but very well maintained. Don't expect 21st century comfort (although rooms are equipped with TV and AC), everything is a bit outdated, especially the bathroom facilities. But what you get is fin-de-siècle style and charm of the colonial era. A perfect escape! More

This place was like a Fellini movie. It is a run down place with over priced food and depressing rooms. The town it is in is even worse. But the most horrible thing is the crazy background music the hotel plays for about 6 hours a day around meal times that you can hear from the rooms. It is awful.... More
