One of the funkiest weirdest and coolest places in SA. You can get lost on their mini jungle boardwalks. They have a YOGA STUDIO :o which looks amazing! A pool with slide and toys for the kids at heart. Cool high terras hang outs looking over their mini jungle, a nice bar. Even the rooms are funky with two floors.... More

Mantis and moon backpacker is the perfect place to stay. You go there for one night and after that it is so hard not to stay one month. Close to the ocean, tree houses in the middle of the jungle. And the staff will help you to spend such a good time. You definitely have to go there

Before we went to M&M a fellow traveler described it as "a lovely ramshackle place". Indeed it is. It's hard to imagine that in amongst the walled-in manicured lawns of upper middle class Umzumbe is a little jungle with wooden boardwalks, wooden huts, tree houses, and outdoor showers. It's a bit dirty, especially with all the dogs (5 or more?)... More

After years of wanting to visit Mantis and moon, finally my husband and I got to (without the kids). Stayed in a lovely tree top wooden house with en-suite surrounded by tons of forest. Food was simple and homely. Staff were very friendly and warm. Awesome jaccuzzi with divine cocktails under the stars. Also a nice pool to cool off... More

Twice we've stayed at the Mantis and Moon, gorgeous experiences ; fabulous jacuzzi under the palm trees with birds in abundance, a majestic sized bar filled with assorted young travellers, close to the sweetest Hibberdene beach. Our first stay was in a cabin in the trees and the second stay was in a tepee. Will definitely be back.

I loved Mantis and Moon! The way it was set up was so unique and fun. So much greenery, you feel like you're in the middle of the jungle. The kitchen was great for cooking your own meals. There was a couple awesome patios to read or sunbathe. I was there at a quiet time (middle of the week off... More

I'm really confused as to how this place has got any negative reviews! Me and my boyfriend are travelling around South Africa with the buz baz and we are still comparing everything to the mantis and moon. We are so glad we stayed here, it was a real highlight for both of us. The staff were perfect, lovely, helpful, approachable... More

I stayed at Mantis & Moon a while ago. Whenever I tell friends about my trip to South Africa, this place is one that I'm most excited to describe. It's so beautiful you feel like you're in another world. The staff were also really fun to spend time with and made my friends and I feel at home. I hope... More

If you are travelling in SA, you must stop at Mantis & Moon! It's an amazing hostel in the jungle, close to the beach. At M&M you will fall asleep rocked by the sound of the waves and you will be awakened by the monkeys playing in trees. There are many different rooms, all well kept, confortable and clean. Whether... The hostel is situated ‘in the middle of nowhere’, at least, that’s how it felt. The jungle around the hostel is taken 'inside' and a walk path is leading the way to the rooms. A big birdhouse at the front of the restaurant hold all sorts of animals – not only birds. They can hop over to than other part... More
