If you turn a blind eye to the car parking right in front of the building this hotel has quite a spectacular setting overlooking the wharf, Hokianga Harbour and a backdrop of huge sand dunes and hills. We stopped for lunch having driven across from Kerikeri, heading south along the western coast of Northland. Out front is a statue to... More

Unfortunately I had only one night here, but would seriously return. Small but well configured room, exceptional bathroom, gorgeous decor and lovely views over the harbour. A plus was the french doors opening onto a lovely private balcony with great view. An absolute gem in Opononi, very reasonably priced, friendly staff, and very clean. Note: Breakfast is not served during... More

We took a chance with this accommodation & were agreeably surprised. Staff were pleasant, stone grilled food was delicious & not particularly expensive. The bedroom we were allotted was one of the 2 front facing looking out over the harbour so the view could not be faulted. Bed was comfortable & the bathroom clean & well appointed, but be aware... We came in search of Opo’s memorial and just had to stop off for a drink and a snack while we were there. Opononi Hotel is a great place to stop and take in the views across the Hokianga Harbour. The bar staff were friendly and efficient and they also serve the most awesome Kumara Chips we’ve ever experienced.

We were passing late in the afternoon and called in on the off chance of two rooms. We were given two rooms with veranda's overlooking the front of the hotel, the car park and had river view. The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom had a great shower. We ate in the hotel as there... More

There's not a lot of competition in these parts, but I would have no hesitation returning here in the unlikely event of our ever passing this way again. A decent room, helpful staff and the restaurant provides good food. The bar looks a bit rough, but you don't have to linger there!

Beautiful spot on the Hokianga Harbour. Room smallish but functional and comfortable. Ours looked out onto rather tatty backyard but others much better and with small balconies, Staff were very friendly and we had an excellent meal, dining in their outside part of the restaurant. Marvellous view of the Harbour from our table. Good breakfast the next morning. Overall well... More

We stayed overnight in the separate building alongside the old hotel. Smallish but nicely refurbished rooms and large shower, tea/coffee making facilities. We had dinner at the hotel - the four of us were very impressed with the standard of our meals and one of us had the Hot Stone chicken which he enjoyed. We happened to be there for... More

Taking the alternative route from the Bay of Islands back down South, we happened upon the Opononi Resort Hotel. It sits alongside the sea in spectacular surroundings and is a character building. (Old Hotel) We stopped there for lunch. The staff were very friendly and the menu good. We had the 'Hot Stone' dinner of assorted meats. Never having done... More

Although it's a bit dingy and needs a facelift there is a lot of nice things about this hotel, mainly the kind and serving staff and a pretty decent pricing list for the drinks .... where else can you get a gin and tonic for $7 ... and a full glass of Shiraz for $9 !! The meal was deliciously... More
