Having been cycling all day we were looking forward to a good night's rest at Hotel Waddenweelde.

First impressions were not good. The hotel reception area was lined with shelves selling cheap deck shoes. Worse was to come. On checking in, they told us that they were full and did not have a room. This was despite us having booked over two months earlier, and having received confirmation. The receptionist would give no reason. It's clear to me that because we had booked for one night only, they had decided to give our room to someone who wanted to book for a longer period. If we had not turned up, we would have had to pay the full charge of 87.50 Euros. But no such sanctions for them.
