We just returned from our journey to Costa Rica so I can put everything within some context for my fellow travelers. El Silencio is first and foremost an eco-lodge. They proudly wear the Relaix and Chateau designation. They are the only property within Central America to have earned these stripes. Although as mentioned by some previous reviewers, this designation is... More

Having been to Tanzania last year, it was a bit reminiscent of one of the lodges we stayed at, secluded and one needed a flashlight to get around at night. Food was excellent and staff friendly. We had a couple issues with our hot water for the shower, though the other couple did not. They did find the problem and... More

An overdue review for the wonderful El Silencio. We drove up (nice, scenic drive once you get close to the Lodge. Note: if you are driving in Costa Rica for the first time and it is dark, there are some very narrow roads along some pretty steep cliffs which can make for an "interesting" drive if you aren't expecting it)... Please do return soon. Since your May 2014 visit our Chef Carlos Andrés Meléndez has elevated our culinary offerings. OMG - I can't say enough about El Silencio. This lodge and spa was beyond our expectations! First - thank goodness we had a private transfer driver take us, as we would never have found it on our own. It is in the Cloud Forest, which is above the Rain Forest. The drive itself was an adventure, and I don't... More

We spent two nights at El Silencio with our two teenage children. We stayed in Quitxal villa which has two beautiful bedrooms a huge lounge, a private jacuzzi on a large terrace. It also has a spectacular fire place where you can enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and roasted marsh mallows. For activities we went to a local house for tortilla... More

Spent 2n in Xalachi villa - new 3BR - very clean and well appointed but looks a little cold (and is actually cold at night) and unfinshed. Landscaping is not yet done and plot looks a little run down. Lodge itself is very pretty but in the middle of nowhere with very bad roads - takes 2hrs to cover 50km.... More

El Silencio Lodge & Spa is honored to have been selected as the first Relais & Châteaux destination in Central America, following a thorough incognito evaluation that emphasized service, authenticity, and uniqueness. We celebrate our remote location because it adds to the quality and intensity of the natural immersion experience that we promise and uphold. Thanks for praising the beauty... More

El Silencio Lodge and Spa is a lovely, secluded place nestled in a valley with a river running right next to the main lodge and various streams running through other parts of the 200ha property. The outdoor Jacuzzi in our suite had been turned on before we arrived, as had the heater, so all was toasty (with an elevation of... More

A wonderful luxurious boutique hotel nestled in the middle of a tiny town: Bajos del Toro, Alajuela. A peaceful ambient, a clean river, waterfalls a great spa, everything right there.... The suites are nice, maybe in need of a touch up since the hotel has been around for about 10 years. The beds are heavenly... Maybe the best I've slept... More

The personal touches wouldn't believe of this place are remarkable. The staff adds a dimension that is outstanding [Alonso at the Bar makes a meticulous drink, Emilio as eco-concierge picks fun activities with you, Vincizo is one of the FINEST bird guides].. The place is most romantic-- bungalow cottages which elegant and simple -- have their own somewhat private hot... More

We spent our first night in Costa Rica at El Silencio and fell in love! The grounds are beautiful and the wine pairing and dinner was delicious! The rooms are private and very comfortable! Beautiful porch with jacuzzi overlooking the rainforest! The staff attends to your very need and provided us with a nature hike and zip lining.
