From what the staff said, quetzals can be seen from their parking lot almost every day. However, you will be charged a $5 per person entrance fee even if you just come in to eat at the restaurant. They don't have a sign, so the charge can come as a surprise. This is a private nature reserve, so I understand... More

Thank you for your comments and the feedback. Now, we have a bigger sign indicating the entry fee, we hope to have no future misunderstandings :) More

The place to see the quetzales and other birds in the surrounding rain forest. We spent one night and would have stayed longer if time had permitted. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, comfortable bed with crisp clean linen and towels. Our room was at the back overlooked by trees and shrubs. Dinner and breakfast was fresh and well prepared.... More

This is the place to go if you want to see the queztal. Five minutes after we arrived the staff was taking us out to the road to see a female, and ten minutes after that a male with his red breast and green head. Accommodations are basic but comfortable and priced accordingly. The nearby Biotopo is a great place... More

Pros - warm, has hot water, ok for a night. Good breakfast and supper. Cons - no ATM nearby so the staff should say before supper and breakfast how much it will cost. We were shocked to find breakfast not included. We were bothered by other tourists who talked and smoked and ruined our experience in the morning. The family... More

After many years of staying in the area and going to the Biotopo to see quetzales, and having never seen a d**n quetzal, we gave this a try. The owner told us the property, just north of the Biotopo, had been in his family for generations as a retreat and when he retired, he decided to create a perfect habitat... More

My husband and I decided to stay a night at Ranchito del Quetzal after we read all the great reviews about how easy it was to see the quetzal bird there. We arrived after a very long drive from Flores and were extremely exhausted and hungry! We were greeted very warmly by the family and in no time were sitting... More

This is a small operation - so don't expect polished floors...or any carpet...but I went there with my 4 children and we loved it. It was very basic - but just enough to feel comfortable. And the food was very affordable. We were there to see the Quetzals. My son saw one but the rest of us didn't. I plan... More

Fantastic little place. Stop by for an early breakfast meal or come early afternoon and stay the night. Owners have lots of fruit trees on the property where quetzals come to eat. Rooms are basic, but tidy. Staff is very friendly and the food (especially breakfast) is excellent! Highly recommend if you are on the Quetzal hunt.

I stayed here a night to see the Quetzal bird, on of the most beautiful birds of the world (in my opinion), and I was highly rewarded, when they were flying around and feeding at 6.30 am. It is said to be one of the most reliable places to see these birds. There are several rooms and cabins, check them... More
