I attended The Vale recently with a friend for their Brazilian night and booked one nights’ accommodation. My friend and I both found the welcome warm and the atmosphere very friendly. The enthusiastic staff really do make an effort to ensure that you are comfortable. The food was served buffet style with a Brazilian/Portuguese twist and we found it very... More

We arrived here on spec and we were very pleased to find it clean, warm and comfortable. Surprisingly modern style bedroom and ensuite. The new owner, Maria, and all the staff were helpful and friendly. A small hotel charging sensible rates. We would happily stay here again.

Booking somewhere to stay at short notice is always a worry, and having searched quite a few places & found them all fully booked! So it was with relief and delight to have found this gem in Cricklade, only a short drive from where we going to visit Family & attend a Christening. We arrived around 4 to behold a... More

I only had a brief stay, but I really appreciated the little touches from the staff. The (possibly French?) manager who greeted me was particularly charming attentive - he personally showed me to my room (not something you tend to expect in a mid-price hotel such as this) and was very considerate to write out a night door code on... My husband and I stayed here for one night whilst walking the Thames Path. We received a very warm welcome from the owner despite our muddy state. On entering, I was immediately struck by the cleanliness and modern decor as the building looks like a regular pub from the outside. We had a lovely room in the cottage at the... More

Decided to book a table for 4 people. Really welcoming, staff couldnt do more. Food was excellent and seemed reasonable in price. Would def recommend. Great to see that there was new ownership and that there was a real desire to get things right. I wish them well.

We spent a night at the Vale Hotel when walking the Thames Pathway. We had very comfortable modern accommdation and chose an excellent continental breakfast. The staff were so friendly and helpful - as we arrived drenched to the skin and they went out of their way to help. We recommend this hotel.

I attended the Brazilian night at the Vale Hotel at the end of September. From the moment my husband and I entered we were made to feel at home and were quickly served a Brazilian cocktail, caipirinha, which was delicious. A local samba band had been hired, the hotel decorated in Brazilian colours, a Brazilian chef taken on for the... More

From someone who stays in lots of Hotels, I only stayed 2 nights in this Hotel and found the following to say about it. The Bedroom was clean and tidy and although it was modern it had a very relaxed and warm feel to it, the bed was extremely comfortable too (beleive me, they would have heard from me if... More

Arrived as part of a group, and although the welcome and atmosphere were promising, the meals were awful. We were a largish group, but that didn't excuse the cold meals, and meals obviously pre-cooked, defrosted but still served cold in the middle. The piri piri seabream was like leather, well over cooked. The beef stroganoff was the mushroom stroganoff with... More

This does feel very unfair - we do not defreeze pre-cooked meals - we served steaming hot freshly cooked dishes. We do take into account your comment about the bread, cold meat, cheese and olives - this is a tradition in Portuguese restaurants but we will serve this as an optional extra in future (it's £2.50 for two not each...
