Stayed two nights in a courtyard room with our little dog. Very comfortable bed and good size rooms. The food was excellent both the evening meal and a great breakfast . Nine real ales to choose from and really helpful staff. Only gripe I'm a little tall for the shower my head touched the ceiling .

Arrived late afternoon and the place was just ticking over and lots of dogs. Later on a total transformation. It was very busy, a good atmosphere, luckily we booked the restaurant this is a popular choice. The food was excellent and the menu recommended the beers to complement the meal. If you like your beer this is the place to... More

As a certain uk drink advert of the past would say...... probably the best B&B in the world or in its area at least. This pub not only has high class accomodation and food, it is a beer (and drink) conisseur's delight. There were ten real ales including four from the pub's own microbrewery, four ciders (plus the normal brands),... More

We stayed at the Red Lion for two nights (Thursday and Friday), and ate there both nights; it was a very pleasant experience. The Red Lion balances the roles of restaurant and pub very well. The Red Lion serves meals both in the bar and in the restaurant, with separate menus, except that it’s restaurant-only on Friday & Saturday evenings.... More

We stopped at the Red Lion on a Thames Path walk and had a wonderful experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, comfortable and very attractive. We had a pizza from the outdoor oven made with local salami for dinner and a fine English breakfast the next morning before setting off on the next stage of... More

Living in Cricklade, the Red Lion used to be the pub my family and I would visit on a fairly regular basis. Unfortunately the attitude of the Landlady is fair from enticing. To say that she is precious about things would be an understatement! About 18 of us were sitting in the pub on Wednesday 22nd October, some of which... More

I am very confused by this review considering on Wednesday 22nd October my manageress was away on holiday so certainly could not have been "fair from enticing" as you state in your review. On top of this the restaurant was full with no seats available all evening so there would have been no chairs to use in this situation as... More

Forget your big fancy hotels and characterless global brands, nothing beats a traditional English Inn. They cost less and usually provide a vastly better service (usually!). The Red Lion is up there with the best. It blends local pub, restaurant and Inn with such harmony. Last night, we had me a business traveller, a couple walking along the Thames, the... More

We arrived at the first leg of the Thames path and were made immediate welcome. Our room (1) was excellent with nice smellies etc in the very large bathroom. Moving into the bar the room was busy but it gave the pub great atmosphere. It seemed a mix of locals plus people waiting to move into the restaurant. The selection... More

Nice pub but Sunday lunch was miserly portion of beef and few veg, which for fourteen quid is dreadful. When it says "rare beef" it's not supposed to be because there's not much of it. Great beer, just don't go for Sunday lunch.

We got off to a bad start - the Red Lion has no car park, and car parking in Cricklade High Street is a game of musical spaces at some times of day/week. We finished up carrying our luggage all the way from the off-street car park at the other end of the High Street, so already frayed on arrival...... More
