The portrait of Sir Winston Churchill in the lobby sets the tone for this traditional hotel, set on a dramatic and quite remote peninsula on this island of contrasts. Churchill stayed here in 1935 and not a lot has changed since, it would seem. The bedrooms are desperately outdated and in much need of renovation, but in some ways this... More

The hotel for a five star premises really needs to get more enthusiastic staff in the dinning room who recognise guests would appreciate a little positive energy a smile, greeting and occasional movement to check everything is ok, would you like a coffee clear tables. Generally do the role of a waiter which is easily found everywhere from a cafe... More

Having read some previous reviews on tripadvisor from other guest comments, I must say that having experienced the building, the staff service, the quality of product and overall standards, I find that some negative comments are unfounded. I agree totally with the positive comments that have been written and had a wonderful break at this hotel. I am a Sales... More

We stayed for three days in this historic hotel. The gardens are extensive and beautifully maintained and the pool facilities excellent. The views of the mountains and sea are spectacular, a perfect setting for a quiet, relaxing holiday. It is wonderful to wander through the vegetable and flower gardens and the endless paths of shady trees. We relaxed on the... More

One cannot do better in Mallorca than put in a few days at the Hotel Formentor. Its romantic story and idyllic setting are the perfect back cloth for one of the most interesting and relaxing holidays imagineable. Fine food, wine and service all combine for the ultimate hotel experience.

I spent three days in this hotel as an invited member to the Literary Conversations of Formentor, that gather up writers and intellectuals from Spain and elsewhere. I was assigned a magnificent two room suite at the third floor, without balcony but a splendid view on the see and the bay. Furniture, altough older and a little bit obsolete, was... More

This is a wonderful hotel, beyond every expectation. Exceptionally located right on the beach, surrounded by magnificent manicured gardens, equiped with generous swimmimng pools (to alternate with sea diving). The hotel is complete with horse-riding facilities, tennis courts, spa, several restaurants scattered across the gardens serving anything you can dream of. Highly recommended!

Can't take away from the magical and enchanted setting of this place; it is stunning. Really enjoyed how calm and serene the place is for our week in the sun. It's not however 5 star. And the €40 per day at the beach has a bit of a sting plus it's not private as is advertised. There is a distinct... More

In all truth, most beaches in mallorca have algae at some point during the summer. They are crowded, with cigarrette butts mixed with sand, and filled with tourists. When you go to Barcelo Formentor, you have what is, in m y opinion, the best beach in the island. The hotel staff is friendly, the rooms are as expected (I mean... More
