We found Vilcabamba and Rumi Wilco to be a relaxing refuge along the route of travel. The campsite was a 15 minute walk from town in the woods and along the river - bring a headlamp at night. The camping kitchen was cute and well stocked. The bathrooms were rugged. There was plumbing, but no door. The toilet and shower... More

We stayed at Rumi Wilco for three nights. One night in a Room and two nights in house. The kitchen and the rooms/house were well cleaned. The kitchen had all we needed: Fridge, different pods, sharp knifes, a blender and in the house was even a oven. We enjoyed the walks in the nature reserve. The trails are in a... More

We stayed here over New Year on our way south to Peru and had to tear ourselves away! We had a little twin room next to the kitchen which we shared with about six other people - we had two huge communal feasts whilst we were there! The walk into town is about 15 minutes along the river - bring... More

This lovely place is set up in a natural environment just by the river. The owners have made a successful combination between comfortable accommodation and nature preservation. We stayed for 7 days in a room with a private kitchen and shared toilet facilities. Everything is kept very clean and tidy by the guests and the cleaner. The rooms are beautifully... More

Alicia and Orlando have created a beautiful setting with artistic touches and comfortable rooms. The kitchen is among the most functional of all the hostels we visited in Ecuador. Because of its location (slightly out-of-town) this ecolodge attracts young, intelligent travelers from everywhere imaginable! A few of us also opted to work for some or all of our room fees.... I won't rant on. The idea behind the lodge is great. Helping preserve the ecology of the owners small plot of land. You can pay them to volunteer if you like. The sad thing is that the very friendly owners are so involved in ecology i dont think they have noticed the place is filthy, disgusting and dangerous. Aside from... More

We went for camping at this reserve. The camping spot is quite a long walk away from the entrance, but beautifully located on a grassy spot, near the river (where you can wash and bath, swimming is a no no i guess, the water is very fast and wild) and three nice wooden cabbins on poles. We came in at... More

I worked here for about 1 week and absolutely loved it. I couldn't have been more content with the natural and peaceful environment, amazing hiking trails, and hardy work that I took part in each day. Orlando and Alicia are two of the most incredible people I have met, and welcomed all of us volunteers warmly. Thanks for such a... More

We have traveled and lived all over Ecuador for years, but this was the most relaxing adventure we have ever had - the sound of the river roaring by, the endless birds and animals - a beautiful haven on the edge of the world. Lovely walks into town, through the mountains and everywhere. The hosts are profoundly nice too. Stay... More

Rumi Wilco is a dream come true for two Argentinean biologists who are ex-Galapagos guides and truly inspirational people. They started this nature reserve in the late 70ies-eary 80ies, when not many people cared about nature preservation, and they still run it together with their three children. The reserve is sustained through accommodating guests, selling home–made produce (organic coffee, granola,... More
