Although it seemed quite nice when we arrived, we felt deeply uncomfortable in this hostel. Staff were offhand and vague while nothing seemed to work well from the shower and the WC to the shared services. Although we thought it was cheap, we heard from other people that they overcharged foreigners so we moved out after one night.

It's sometimes difficult for a place with a bad rap to change it's reputation, but let me tell you, because of recent management changes, Resort de Agua del Hierro (RAH) deserves another chance. When you get to Vilcabamba you can't help but notice all of the billboards for Agua De Hierro, spouting, "$6 and up for all services". The services include, jacuzzi, sauna and steamroom, only none of them work. And there is not a $6 room. The rooms start at $9 for a single shared room without a bathroom, and go up... More

The hostal seems attractive enough in its appearance and location. But once you have checked in, you will find you are in quite a jam. First of all, the rooms don´t have regular bedframes, just slabs of concrete where they pile on a mattress and that´s your bed right there.
