I have stayed in Ciudad Rodrigo on a handful of occasions. It is an attractive town with many old sixteenth-century mansions and a cathedral ockmacked with artillery strikes from the Peninsular War. It also has its mediaeval walls (the circuit of which is recommended) and a tower, which forms the centrepiece of the parador. The rooms are delightful in the... More

I visit the Uk from Portugal twice a year, this Parador is about halfway to the ferry at Santander, having stayed at a few other hotels in the area, I think the fact that I have stayed there ten times might give you a hint. It is fabulous, full of history, immaculate rooms and very good cuisine. You must make... More

This Parador was very quaint, built inside/around an old castle within the city walls of Rodrigo. It had a lot of charm and history in it. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. The town of Rodrigo was OK. It had a few interesting sites, but not a lot. It was a good stopping place on our... More

Driving back from Portugal to Spain, we ended up near the natural border and stayed at this wonderful old castle hotel. The castle is on the top of the hill and the town has been built over time around its base. The hotels theme is extraordinary, from where you can walk up to the highest tower overlooking the town and... More

Rodrigo is probably not one of the most visited paradors because it is somewhat off the "beaten track" of standard tourist routes. It is, however, worth the detour. Excellent historical buildings, nice rooms, good breakfast, and right in the old town of Ciudad Rodrigo. Local restaurants and the main square are within easy walking distance. The town is not as... Our view of the sunset form the Parador is one etched in our memory. While spending two weeks driving in Spain, we stayed here one night. BIG MISTAKE!!!! We should have stayed here a week! The view, the old town, the food and the service were outstanding.

Staying in a castle that has been upgraded into a hotel was a unique experience. The ambiance sets you back to the olden days and leaves you imagining what life was during that era. The restaurant serves exquisite meals comparable to dishes found in more expensive hotels and restaurants. The Parador is clean and the staff superb. We will make... More

The Parador at Cuidad Rodrigo has (or at least had) something of the Marie Celeste about it. The hotel itself is in a splendid, romantic, “castle in Spain” setting, having already been a centuries old building when Wellington stormed the city in 1812. The views from the windows are panoramic, as indeed are the views from the hotel terraces and... More

I had always wanted to stay in the Paradores and on this trip I'm staying in 7! This was a great start; a 14th century castle with suits of armour and tapestries everywhere. I was on half board and dinner was excellent with a good and varied choice from the menu. We even had a free aperitif before the meal.... More

Whenever I get a chance to stay at a Parador I don't miss it. Neither have I ever been disappointed. But when you go to this Parador you get more than a beautifully appointed room and comfortable beds, not forgetting the outstanding view from the window of your balcony. Ciudad Rodrigo is one of those beautifully preserved medieval towns one... More
