Stayed for 1 night. Ciudad Rodrigo is interesting to walk around, but best as a stopover to/from Portugal. At first glance, the hotel looks absolutely fantastic, better than the Parador - entrance/reception and hall beautifully decorated and renovated.....then you go upstairs to some very basic rooms. It's really a pity, such a nice palace in such a nice city, big rooms and plenty of space, but they save money from everywhere. You'll find a pretentious & expensive decoration everywhere...but just one piece of soap in your bathroom. We stayed in the Palacio Maldonado on a very wet October weekend and on the whole we enjoyed our stay. Our room was a bit small but very comfortable and the bathroom was both spacious and modern. We hired one of the rooms in the lowest price range and we were very pleased with the relation between quality and cost.... more
