Between Coffee Bay and Hole in the Wall, this restaurant is part of the White Clay resort. Down a rather steep road, it hangs over the ocean. Their seafood is superb and recommended. Slightly above average pricing. I really enjoyed the Mussel chowder, although a starter, is more than adequate for a main, served with a garlic and cheese roll. Hubby had the calamari plate.

My second visit in about 4years and I enjoyed the stay at White Clay very much. We stayed in the dolphin-view chalet. To mention it is quite basic, but as a group we did not expect any star-rating on the self cater stay - the views and semi private beach occupied our minds and not the quality of the bedding. If your taste is fancy White clay might not be for you as it is more in line with backpacker style. We had hot water, beds, a kitchen with basic utensils a lovely braai (BBQ) area and a view that keeps you staring at it from your arrival to your departure

Let me start by saying the onsite restaurant is great with excellent seafood. The location and setting of the place is beautiful with wonderful scenery. Do not get confused with the word ‘resort’ in the name. This is basic and very much backpack style accommodation. I have stayed at many different places in the Wild Coast and basic is to be expected. White Clay however need a bit of a do-over as it is pretty rundown. The unit I got had many window with closers missing or that could not be properly closed from a security point of view. The bedding and pillow cases had holes in it. One would not expect that at R500 per night. The worst however was a trailer full of rotting rubbish bags that was left next to the unit. The stench made sitting outside to admire the beautiful surroundings very unpleasant and it attracted flies. I left after one night and was not offered a refund for the extra night already paid.

My husband and I booked for 3 nights during the beginning of November 2020. We managed 1, only because we arrived too late to brave the road in the dark. Traveling to the Transkei most would expect basic/rustic accommodation (as we did), however, we arrived to a unit that was very literally falling apart and completely covered in mould (curtains, walls, and doors). Whilst the owner noted that they have not had many visitors since the Covid lockdown this cannot be an excuse for mould growing throughout the space, windows held together with wire, and collapsing ceilings. Beyond the unit, there was also litter all over the place, and we saw no sign at all of the 24 hour security noted on the website.

We just spent 3 x days at this cute resort Stunning location, perched on the cliffs above the beach. The chalets were more than adequate, fully serviced and provided everything for the self caterer. The resort restaurant provided SUPERB food... The best seafood on the Wild Coast and at reasonable prices. Swimming was a pleasure, with easy access to the beach. A waterfall onto the beach provided a fresh water shower after the sea swim.. FANTASTIC!! BEAUTIFUL rock cliffs along the beach provide stunning scenery and hiking trails complete the marvel. VERY good location.. A few minutes from coffee bay center and 10 minutes drive to the incredible HOLE IN THE WALL feature. VERY reasonable rates complete the description.

The hotel is not that easy to get to and has stunning stunning views out to sea BUT there are limitations Everything is shut on Sunday, no restaurant no cleaners and a patchy reception cover No TV, no WiFi, no safe, poor thing telephone coverage. Our room smelt a little damp and the sliding doors probably could have been popped with a spoon They have a parrot by reception in a tiny cage which I found quite distressing.. please re-home it or treat it to a new cage about 10 times the size I’m glad I saw the views but I would not go back

Beautiful location - you won't find better. Rustic, but spacious rooms. Good value for money. The restaurant is unbelievable with very delicious seafood. We hiked from White Clay to Hole-In-The-Wall which is a must do for adventure and nature lovers.

White Clay was the first stop on our 3 week camping trip and on arrival we were blown away with breath-taking views. We camped for 2 nights with a toddler and besides some strong wind we enjoyed every part of our stay. The ablutions were clean and we felt safe with security always walking around even during the night. The restaurant on site serves the most amazing fresh seafood and it was convenient having reception also sell a small amount of super market items. We will definitely be back.😀

White Clay is the best self catering accommodation in Coffee Bay. You get stunning views, a private beach, clean and comfortable accommodation, and a great restaurant on the premises. It is about 5km out of town, on route to Hole in the wall. Remember to buy a Wild Coast Meander route map at the shop - we used it for a scenic 4x4 drive to Port St Johns!
