We camped at Sugarloaf and were very impressed by the cheapness of the camping spot (R100 per tent). It's cheaper then a camping site and includes all the amenities of the backpackers. They could clean up and restock the guest kitchen (new utensils, better lighting) and perhaps fix some leaking taps/showers in the bathrooms. Other than this I have no... More

Sugarloaf is the perfect place for any type of travelers. it has the best location in coffee bay, with the sea a five minute walk away!! Fresh seafood on the reg AND THE BEST CALAMARI. Brilliant atmosphere, staff, location, food and view! For people (like me) that prefer private accommodation, I can recommend staying in Giant. A beautiful rondavel (traditional round cottage) with its own bathroom overlooking the river and beach. The best backpackers in Coffee Bay/Transkei!

I came to Sugarloaf when travelling through the Transkei. I cannot recommend this place more highly. It's a typical backpackers with a twist, the rooms are clean and comfortable, I stayed in a safari tent complete with proper double bed, overlooking the river and the beach, we watched the sun set and rise over the stunning view. The food is... More

Coffee Bay has a magical feel, one of peace, 3 nights at Sugarloaf Backpackers weas not enought, situated on the river a short walk to the beach, sit and chill watching the birdlife, and the waves breaking on the shore, clean comfortable backpacking accomodation, late afternoon fire, with the sound of the drum beat. All staff friendly and helpful

Stayed at Sugarloaf for 3 or 4 days back in 2013 (sorry for the delayed review :-) ) while on a road trip from Cape Town to Durban. The surrounding area is simply beautiful and the overall atmosphere at Sugarloaf was great. The staff were all very kind and helpful, and the food was good. We took a guided hike... More

Although I didn't stay at Sugar Loaf on this trip, I have stayed there on numerous occasions. This time I just joined a big party on a Saturday night, and wow, what a party! The new owner, Kingsley, is a super friendly guy, and has brought a real spirit and life to the place. I will definitely be back and... More

The location is awesome, the staff were very helpful and great company, drinks were cold and the atmosphere was always relaxed. The food was top notch, and the portions were more than generous. I stayed in a double tent, would definitely recommend it. Thanks for a great trip guys.
