Bomvu was really 'just ok'. Food was average. Our campsite location was quite nice but we were woken at 530am everyday by the animals, so moved into a private dorm which was fine. It wasn't particularly clean but the staff were friendly, helpful and we had a relaxing few days on the coast.

We were really disappointed with the accommodation and this is mostly due to poor management, or no management at all. When we booked we weren't informed that there wasn't going to be any electricity which meant no hot water either and this had been the situation for the past few months. Surprisingly so as the rest of Coffee Bay had... More

I recently visited with friends after having seen their latest video advertising this amazing place and after the flight from the Netherlands and then the drive from Ballito in KZN, we finally arrived late afternoon only to discover that their 'Nothing Beats Bomvu' logo, it was very evident that 'Anything Beats Bomvu'. There was no sign of management and the... More

This was our experience: We arrived fairly late on Friday evening from East London, we were amazed that this place was the only place in Coffee bay that had absolutely no power and the staff were walking around with headlamps to show us to our room. There were many dodgy looking power cables snaking through the place to power various... More

Due to mismanagement this great venue has gone to the dogs. They 'lost' my reservation after mailing, phoning & messaging and getting confirmation. The poor pizza lady was left in charge and was lost to what she should do. My previous visit there was drumming for hours and it was packed. Unfortunately now the drummers were asked to stop after... I stayed here for 4 nights in November. I booked it because after traveling in a dorm for so long I really wanted some quiet and a double room was very cheap! I could not get in contact with them all day about a transfer with the baz bus. The shuttle was delayed (separate company) and they did not even... More

I'm not fussy, I've stayed in some bad places, but this has got to be the worst. We had 1 light that worked, the place with filthy and smelt of dog. The bathroom sink emptied ot on to the bathroom floor. Terrible!!!!!

Three years ago I visited this place when it was blooming. Now we left after one night to look for another place to camp. I'm quite an easy going guy but I just didn't want to stay in this place any longer. It feels like some things have gone terribly wrong here in recent months. We were told that the... More

Beside the entrance to the beautiful beaches of Coffee Bay lie two backpacker lodges - CoffeeShack and Bomvu Paradise. While CoffeeShack is clean, well-run, and full of activities, Bomvu Paradise is anything but. During the day, the place is empty and at night, people trickle back to sleep. Why is this so? A multitude of reasons. The broken down jalopy... More

We're camping since 6 weeks around South Africa and we had to stay one night at Coffee Bays Bomvu Backpackers. I would say the worst night so far, we had round about 30 mosquitos in our room penetrating us the whole night. "Use repellent" the reception said the next morning, oh really? "We're not a 5 star hotel" is not... More
