Loved staying at this beautiful B&B above Lake Arenal. The property has two downstairs bedrooms with shared bathroom and an upstairs "suite" that sleeps four. It was perfect for our family. The upstairs window frames a stunning view of the volcano. The property is lush and green and we loved the resident dogs. The hosts are so much fun and... More

We had a wonderful four days and nights at Chalet Nicholas. Cathy and John were superb hosts and made us feel right at home. We did indeed arrive as strangers, and we left as friends. Chalet Nicholas is a comfortable place to stay in a lovely setting. Our favorite thing to do was to sit in the rocking chairs on... More

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon. Chalet Nicholas itself is beautiful, and has top-shelf views. Breakfast and accommodations were wonderful. John, the inkeeper, has a lot of knowledge of the surrounding area and all the plants & animals. The Great Danes are a real treat, very sweet and friendly. Note to Americans: this is a foreign country,... More

We are a couple and our stay at Chalet Nicholas was very disappointing : while I've booked a room with a view on the Volcano or Lake, I was told that my booking has been cancelled as "a lot of people do not show up after a booking". But we were there ... so they put us in a room... More

This little B & B is a very comfortable place to stay in a wonderful area of Costa Rica. One can sit on rocking chairs on the veranda and listen to the sounds of a tropical night or go out there after a wonderful breakfast featuring local food and freshly pressed juice to watch all sorts of birds that come... We travelled to Costa Rica to explore several small towns at various elevations in different parts of the country, and we were planning to take a day tour around the Central Valley with Paul and Gloria Yeatman of retireforlessincostarica.com. On the spur of the moment, we decided to have Paul take us to Lake Arenal instead. The Yeatmans called John... More

We stayed at Chalet Nicholas for 5 nights in July. We (two adults and one teenager) were in the upstairs - which was perfect for us. Even though we were told it was the "slow season" for birdwatching we saw a wide variety of birds on the property. The yard and gardens are beautifully maintained. John's personal tour of their... The four of us (two parents, two kids) were the only guests for the 3 July nights we stayed at Chalet Nicholas, and we wish we could have stayed longer--my daughter loved the loft space and her own porch, the amazing breakfasts (best fruit we had the whole trip, and excellent omelets, bread and jam), and the activities Cathy and... Chalet Nicholas was a wonderful place to stay as we explored the volcano area of Costa Rica. We were only able to stay two nights, but I wish we had planned for longer.
