Okay so I need to start this review by saying I am not a fan of B & B accommodation (more a hotel person) but I recently stayed at Kinloch Lodge as part of a photography course. I have to say that when it comes to B & B's this was a good one. The room I stayed in was... More

we stayed here after finishing the Routeburn and had a very relaxing stay. The host is quite kind and he made an amazing dinner of venison that was memorable. The wine selection was also fabulous!

We spent a couple of days in this lodge... it's great, especially if you are planning to do part of the Routeburn track... The place is in the middle of nowhere, with great views of the lake and mountains... very close to Glenorchy and to the walks.. They got lovely beds, a small and very nice restaurant and a kitchen... It was an absolute pleasure to stay in this historic lodge - away from the bustle of Queenstown, in a secluded spot, nestled amidst stunning mountains and at the head of Lake Wakatipu. We stayed in one of the lovely queen heritage rooms which had a view across the lake. We enjoyed a roaring fire at the end of the... More

Was in NZ April - May 2011. Stayed for 2 nights at the Kinloch Lodge in a private room. They have dorms for the more budget conscious, but if you're weary from hiking the stunning trails I recommend paying extra for some privacy. To start, the lodge is situated just along side of a beautiful lake Wakatipu, so automatically your... More

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Kinloch Lodge after completing the beautiful Routeburn/Caples tracks at the start of this year (2012). Our stay at Kinloch started perfectly with the owner John picking us up from the Greenstone carpark at exactly the time promised (ps. make sure you take the option of being picked up from the... Kinloch Lodge is a great traditional lodge which has been the family for over 100 years. It sits on a quiet part of Lake Wakatipu and a great base for the Routeburn/Greenstone Tracks. You can choose backpacker style accommodation (more at the flashpacker level) or stay in the Heritage Lodge - as such it is excellent value. Don't expect 5... More

We stayed the night before and after we did the Routeburn/Caples track (3 nights). Transport from the Kinloch lodge can be arranged to the Routburn (9:30am) and back from Greenstone/Caples car park (2:00pm). It's a good alternative for the quite pricy transportation you get from and to Queenstown. The lodge is situated in a fabulous scenery at the end of... More

Room was small and the bed had mouse droppings and urine as well as unclean looking bedding. No reduction in price was offered although they did give us back the next nights money as we did not want to stay any longer - surprisingly!!!! Restaurant was closed at 8.30pm and although we were asked if we had food - which... More

In December when these guests stayed our area was subject to an explosion in the population of forest mice. This happens every 4 or 5 years when the native forest that surrounds us sets seed and results in an abundant food source for these small creatures. Whilst we invest a significant amount of resources to reducing the population around the... More
