This place is absolutely beautiful and very peacefull... You CAN discover the mountains just in front of you and enjoy the beauty of the nature. In the afternoon, about 6 PM, you CAN see the peacock and if you are lucky, their beautiful dance! The team is very nice, friendly and the food very good... I Will come again it's... More

Excellent stay in peaceful and eco friendly house in a typical and authentic Tamil Nadu village far away from tourist hustle : temples, peasants, small vendors, village life, rich varieties of birds including peacocks families majestically passing by freely without being disturbed by the villagers. Feeeling at home at Cardamom house thanks to the owner and his staff. Special thanks... More

We received a very warm welcome at Cardamom House and passed a whole week in this beautiful place. Yoga in the morning on the roof terrace, receiving a delicious breakfast with home made bread and fresh fruit; a very personal service from the staff who helped us finding out some excursions. But mostly, we liked to stay there, just reading,... More

Cardamom House is a long way from anywhere. But the journey is worth every minute. A beautiful, tranquil setting; comfortable rooms; an immaculate pool; and far better personal service than you'll get in most five star hotels. This was our second visit and we were delighted to find that the team were still together and as friendly and efficient as... More

We like to vary our accommodation when traveling - sometimes hotels, sometimes B&B's - we are not fussy but we do expect to get the type of accommodation advertised. Cardamom House is listed here on Tripadvisor as a hotel; it is not. However, as that is it's listing that is how we shall review it. Cardamom House is in a... More

What a silly review for it tells the reader NOTHING about Cardamom House at all! We are and have always been a small Family Homestay" with just 7 rooms and a friendly family atmosphere - and have never claimed to be a hotel in any form at all. The reviewer spent two days with us (where all notices serve as... More

Despite several years of travelling in India, with the same very knowledgeable driver, this was a new one on us - a combination of Cardamom House website and Google maps brought us to our destination. Our welcome was warm but we were allowed time to find our bearings, something much appreciated after hours on the road with few opportunities for... More

Chris and his team make Carmamom House a wonderful place to stay! Very peaceful and splendid food and unobtrusive service. The new pool makes the stay even better. Beautiful butterflies and birds! The trip to the village organised by the staff is most interesting. Well worth going out of your way to stay there.

Cardamom House came following a 3 week journey through Tamil Nadu. It was our intention to use our five night stay to unwind and relax before returning home. This goal was exceeded. As soon as we arrived it was clear that this was a special place. The situation looking over beautiful gardens to the lake and the hills is superb.... More

Dr Chris and his team treated us like personal guests and we had a fabulous experience here. It was by far the best of the seven overnight stays we had during our two weeks tour of Kerala. We did not have time to explore the nearby Nature Trail but we did walk alongside the lake where we encountered a few... More

Just had our 2nd visit to this wonderful place. The owner and staff all go out of their way to make you feel like the most treasured guest/friend/relative. Rooms are a good size, comfortable beds, plenty of hot water, your personal library. The food . . . where else do you get home-made bread? apart from all the other tasty... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
AN OVERVIEW! Nestling in the Eastern foothills of the mighty Western Ghats, "Cardamom House" overlooks the monsoon dependent "Kamarajar Lake" and is surrounded by unbelievably beautiful mountainous scenery. Recently we have completely upgraded all facilities and now have a superb modern SWIMMING POOL ; FREE WI-FI ; AIR-CONDITIONING ; NEW THICK SPRING MATTRESSES ; VOLLEYBALL FIELD ; H.D. TV IN COMMUNAL AREA ; CHILDREN WELCOME!!The staff have been working together as a team for some 16 years - and several of them (having visited the U.K) speak English. We are proud of our cuisine which encompasses a wide range of culinary styles (Indian, Continental, Thai, Chinese - and we often 'invent' recipes ourselves! Food is of the highest quality and we purchase only the freshest of fresh vegetables sometimes twice a day - to ensure the 'pick of the crop'.BIRD LIFE AND WILDLIFE? There is an abundance of Birdlfe including peacocks and many others. Leopard, black panther, lynx, jungle cat, bison, sambar, barking and mouse deer have also been spotted from time to time. HOW TO GET HERE? CHENNAI(MADRAS) airport is a 45 minute flight from both MADURAI and TRICHY Airports - both an easy 2 hour drive away. So despite being in a very remote place, we are very easy to get to!THINGS TO DO? Relaxing : walking : photography : swimming : yoga : meditation : Village Tour : Madurai Temple : Kodaikanal Hill Station. In summary - our little "Family Homestay" owned and managed by Dr. Chris - a retired British physician. Cardamom House is a perfect place to 'drop out' and have a truly relaxing holiday whilst being 'spoiled rotten' by our excellent staff. ... more   less
