We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Iya Bijin - it's probably the nicest place I've ever stayed! The rooms, food and hospitality were all exceptional. We stayed there during late November, and the view of the valley with the autumn leaves was spectacular. Our room was one of the cheapest, but it was still great, and big for... More

One of my best Ryokan experiences, with awe-inspiring view and a sense of deep integration with nature. The Japanese style room was generously sized, with all the creature comforts including a massage chair. The private onsen is the perfect location to soak away the fatigue and absorb the fantastic views of the valley. Dinner is served in a private banquet... More

What a find! We were welcomed as soon as we drove into the car park and this continued till we left. We stayed 2 nights and were the only non Japanese staying. Our room was so peaceful with everything we needed. The onsen was gorgeous large enough for both of us. Pure pleasure. The dinners and breakfasts were sensational each... More

We spent two luxurious nights at Iya Bijin in May 2014, and even before we left we wanted to come back. The location is gorgeous. Our room hung right over the gorge, with the stream rushing along a hundred feet below. Although the inn was full and there were many other guests, it was always silent in our room, even... More

Great location for exploring both Iya East & West. Then a soak in private onsen where the scenic lookout brings back many happy memories of the day's discoveries. Exquisitely presented meals that showcase the valley's produce and culinary tradition. But it is the hospitality & friendliness of the team that made the stay most memorable. Many thanks.

The ryokan is tucked just a little ways into the Iya valley, so it made a great base for day trips further in to the more remote Higashi-iya. The staff were very helpful and had great recommendations for things to see and also drive times. The food was incredible and the rooms were fantastic, but the highlight had to be... More

We enjoyed three nights here relaxing and touring locally. It is set high up on the Iya Gorge, a small hotel with all one requires for a relaxing time. View down into the Gorge and along it is incredible. Onsen Cyprus Bath in the room with a magnificent view across the narrow valley. Large windows with plenty of fresh air... More

Although a bit pricey, this ryokan is worth every dollar. The staff are warm and welcoming from the minute you arrive. The room is lovely and the view from the bath is breath taking. With the room comes dinner and breakfast the next morning. I think the meals were some of the best I have ever eaten! We only stayed... More

We chose this place after the reading the 2 previous reviews. They do not lie! We booked by email, writing in English and got a fairly prompt response. In old fashioned Japanese style, bookings are made on trust, and we paid on departure, in cash. We did not expect to be able to pay by credit card and never asked... More

Iya Bijin is pretty incredible. The outside of the Inn looks a bit tudor roadhousy and small, but once you are inside and go downstairs it all opens up. We had had quite a bad time getting to Iya on time (wrong turn on the expressway!) but once the door to our room was opened we pretty much cheered up... More
