My only regret is that we didn't plan to stay longer at Uno Guest House! The house is very spacious (fitting all 6 of us in with comfort) and was an ideal place to stay to explore the art islands, of which we visited Naoshima and Teshima. The owner, Max, is an absolute legend and went well out of his... More

The house is well located, charming, and extremely comfortable. Max is welcoming (even surprised us by picking us up at the ferry terminal) and does a fantastic job of giving the lay of the land. The art sites are spread out around the island and the ferry schedule can be complicated, so it was especially helpful to have him help... More

We stayed at Uno Slope House for one night in January, 2014. Our immediate impression was that Max was incredibly organised. He arranged to meet us at Uno train station and provided quick, useful tips and a list of suggestions around town for food, which was saved us a lot of time. He explained that Uno Slope House is in... More

We really enjoyed our stay at the Uno Slope House. Max is the man! Great host and wonderful person to meet, he will really go out of his way to help if you need something during your stay or in my case even after our stay. I will keep him in mind upon my return to this beautiful region.

Uno Slope House is very unusual! Essentially Max’s family house that he has turned into a minshuku (Japanese-type B&B). Very informal. Western style breakfast - pancakes with maple syrup a welcome change after a few days in Japan! Fluent English-speaking Max is very helpful, but problems with his mobile phone reception can make impromptu arrangements difficult; and the location of... More

I stayed at Uno Slope House in July 2013 for the Setouchi Triennial, and had the best experience there, out of all of the places that I stayed in Japan for the rest of my trip! Hiro was incredibly helpful and kind, allowing guests to borrow the house's bikes for the days around the islands, offering help and advice on... More

I stayed there two nights/two days to visit Naoshima and Teshima. Hiro kindly picked me up at the station, gave me all the information and maps about the islands and even joined me one evening at a restaurant where we had a nice chat. The breakfasts he prepared (pancakes, fruits…) was truly delicious. I had also a nice chat with... More

We stayed one night in Uno as we planned to visit Naoshima Island (art island) just off the coast. Hiro picked up our bags when we arrived, we had a nice chat, he gave us all the maps we needed and sent us on our way, He picked us up from the restaurant he'd recommended later that evening and took...
