Tsuru-ya Hotel is a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan) located in Zao Onsen (spa). There’s a long, winding drive up the mountain to get there. We were six in a van, and the people in the back-most seats had to have strong stomachs. You leave your shoes at the front entrance, and use their slippers. Whenever you want to go outside,... More

Styed here for 4 nights with a lot of friends. We came here for snowboarding. This hotel is very clean and suitted in tranditional Japanese style. The onsen is great. Food is too delecious to describe. The service can't be great. Everyday we finished the snowboarding , the 女將 served us a cup of sweet wine to warm up our... More

I will be ever thankful to the owners and staff at Tsuruya Hotel. When I injured my back skiing, they were so kind calling the ambulance, giving me a ride back from the hospital to the hotel, and being so caring and generous... Will definitively come back!!!

A pleasure to stay at Tsuruya. The staff provide a wonderful service and are fantastic. If i get the chance to go to Zao Onsen again I will definitely stay here. Tsuruya provide a transit service to the ski lifts and there is a drying room at the hotel, making it extremely easy to get to the snow.

First, hotel is just located opposite the Zao onsen bus terminal. I m not able to comment for all if the hotel is good location because for those who ski or snow boarding will need to walk a distance either 7mins to the nearest ropeway or about 15mins to the second ropeway for their activities. A convenience stall is located... More

Great location, just directly across the Zao Onsen bus terminal, thus it was really easy for me and my family to locate it. We were greeted by friendly staff and the cozy hotel itself. What's more, there is free Wi-fi available at the hotel's lobby which was extremely helpful as well :) The hotel staff even took an extra step... More

My son, wife and I wanted to experience a traditional Japanese hotel... this hotel completely exceeded expectations. We were warmly greeted and escorted to our room where we were served tea. The same woman later served us dinner and breakfast in a private room. This continuity enhanced our comfort. The staff are Japanese speaking and my son acted as interpreter.... More

My wife and I stayed at this hotel early January and the staff were extremely helpful and polite despite our inability to speak their language. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the food was fantastic and the private onsets are a real luxury. We were there to ski and were surprised at how few skiers were on the mountain.... More

What a find this place is. This traditional Japanese Inn or Ryokan is situated at the end of a long winding bus trip up a mountain in Yamagata. The scenery is breathtaking with thick blankets of snow covering everything. The place had a magical wonderland feel about it. We arrived late in the afternoon and were met by two very... More

The Onsen town is beautiful with lots of nearby facilities, inns, and restaurants. You can enjoy the view of Zao mountain from your room. The hotel has different hot spring baths with milky sulfuric water that has a PH value of close to 1, leaving your skin feeling soft and silky after soaking. You will enjoy the lovely nature's view... More
