disappointing about the service and considering it's a popular place for international visitors, staff didn't speak adequate english. dinner felt very rushed, it started to bring 2 courses a time, including my soup. i had to stop eating my appetizer to eat my soup before it got cold. i had to call the front desk and ask to bring out... Arriving at Kinosaki train station, it's a small station so no worries on multiple exits, the shuttle buses are parked right outside the main entrance. Just mention Nishimuraya and your on your way. Brilliant welcome, shoes off and we get the low-down on the onsen rules, get fully kitted out with our clothing for the next 2 days - yes-... More

Great hot spring town, with excellent crab cuisine in the winter months. Traditional ryokan. Go out to the local public hot spring baths in your yukata. Check out Quest Japan tours for some travel ideas!

My review is based on the following factors. First time at kinosaki 1.  6 person group,  5 adult,  1 kid (5 year old)  2. They have 2 hotels Nishimuraya honkan (traditional)  and Nishimuraya shogetsutei (modern) Transportation (score 5/5) 1. Upon arriving at the kinosakionsen station,  we right across the street to the visitor information area on how to get to... More

On our very first visit to Japan, I think we have found the most amazing ryokan Japan has to offer. We drove from Himeji to Kinosaki with no problem and arrived at Nishimuraya Honkan to a very warm welcome. We removed our shoes at the door, slipped into the supplied footwear and immediately began to relax. The ryokan has a... More

Service was so gd, it was just a class above the rest. Generally all ryokan service are good, however it is the service staffs' attention to details that really makes it shines. For example, showing us instructions on how to wear a yukata without assuming that we know (although we do know), recommending which public onsen to visit and explaining... More

We arrived at Nishimuraya Honkan at around 6pm after travelling from Tokyo. The staff were warm and charming. Everything we needed was catered for. The food is out of this world and plentiful, and the service is impossible to fault. If you are looking for an escape for a night, I couldn't recommend anything better.

Dear Aaron G, Thank you for staying with us and leaving such thoughtful comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us! From Tokyo it takes on average about 6 hours to reach Kinosaki Onsen (shinkansen from central Tokyo, change to limted express in Kyoto/Shin-Osaka). Schedule should always be checked but generally if you leave Tokyo by 10:30 you... More

We stayed here over the Christmas period. This was a truly authentic Japanese onsen experience and is highly recommended. I would consider myself a relatively experienced user of Ryokans and would rate this one extremely highly for service, authenticity, comfort and particularly food. What I liked: - The amazing matsuba crab kaiseki (only in season for part of the year).... More

Kinosaki is a magical place and this is a delightful place to experience it from. The service is outstanding - friendly and helpful in equal measure. Our garden room was stunning. We upgraded on the meal although some more beef and fewer crab courses would have been good! The Onsen here are good for when you have explored the town.... More
