We took the Shinkansen to Himeji Station then took the Hamakaze JR line to Kinosaki Onsen. As denoted by the name, Kinosaki is the onsen district of the city of Toyooka. Onsens are the traditional Japanese baths, typically with water from natural hot springs. Kinosaki has been regarded as one of the best onsen towns in Japan, with over 1,400... More

Our first visit to Nishimuraya was exactly a year ago. We had such a lasting impression of this little onsen town and the matsuba crab feast that when we were planning our Christmas holiday this year, we knew we had to make another stop! Instead of staying two nights though like we did the year before, we decided to just... More

Simply put, delicious crab is delicious crab! We returned for crab season and it was just as delicious as last year. I dont think the menu changed much, if at all but doesnt matter. This remains the place to go for a onsen and crab experience. The best sign is that the majority of visitors were still Japanese. Nothing seems... More

Good for: one of their staff members, Colin, is bilingual (English is his mother tongue). Kinosaki-Onsen is not a big city - so this comes in handy. Practicalities: fantastic service, wonderful kaiseiki, spot on recommendations for the best onsens in the area. The in-room, private outdoor Onsen was a delight. The honkan is within walking distance to a canal/stream, which... More

Two couple stayed only for one night. I should have stayed two nights. This area is for Onsen (real Japanese hot spring) experiences. We hang around with Japanese Yakata on here and there visiting different onsens. It was really a unique experience. I loved it. If you are not the type of person enjoying onsen, soaking yourself in hot spring,... More

I am totally impressed by their service from the time I booked the hotel and had the emails with Colin until I checked out. Amazing stay at Nishimuraya Hokan. Yes I agree with other reviews that the ryokan is pricey but the memory is priceless. I stayed at the Asuka Room with an open air bath. It provided an absolute... More

A wonderful ryokan stay in Kinosaki Onsen. The first thing that impressed me was the email I received asking me about the dietary needs of the travellers, whether we have allergies or take raw food. It was a long list to tackle but it went to show how dedicated the establishment is in making sure that our needs are met.... More

Dear huangchan, Thank you for your gracious feedback and we are glad your stay was a pleasant one! On online booking sites for our ryokan if you look for a "halfboard" rate that should include dinner & breakfast. Very often "breakfast included" means "breakfast only". We apologize for any confusion! It was an honor to have served you during your... More

Everything has been perfect. The hours of flight and the high price really worth it: the wooden architecture, the garden, the wonderful room with views, the onsen and its calm (been alone in the morning), the staff (Fujita that helped me with the Yukata)... We also visited 4 of the public hot springs and you would not miss the one... More

This is probably the best ryokan in Kinosaki Onsen and the most expensive too. Cost me 30,000 yen per person for Tajima Beef Set course. The kaiseki changes every season and during my visit in May, I don't want the normal Kaiseki, so we go with Tajiama Beef set and da bomb!! If you go during winter time, they serve... More

This place really lives up to its reputation as the best Onsen Ryokan in Japan. The staff, the rooms, the food, the onsen, the service, all are absolutely first class. I've never been so relaxed in my life!
