Lovely ryokan in a quaint hot spring town. The manager was kind enough to arrange my breakfast to have no meat and alcohol due to my religious restrictions. Private hot springs can be reserved on site for free. Service impeccable. Location excellent for walking around and enjoying the onsen town. Simply lovely!

We just spent two nights at Mikuniya in Kinosaki and it was one of the highlights of our two-week trip to Japan. The location is excellent in terms of proximity to the train station. It was a little farther to the main strip with most of the onsens (bathhouses),but really only an additional 5 minutes of walking (although those 5... More

We were a party of 6 (including a 5 year old toddler) and stayed for 2 nights. We stayed in this ryokan since they were running pretty full (only 7 rooms), they split us into 2 rooms in the annex building. One room was significantly larger than the other so it was used as the dinner room as well. The... More

I stayed at mikuniya ryokan for one night as a solo traveller. I was a bit anxious about staying by myself but was put at ease as soon as I arrived. The front desk staff spoke good English, and the woman who assisted me after check in - explaining my room to me, how the onsen work and how to... More

It is very easy to come to this ryokan, as it's located close to the railway station, in the centre of the town. It is also easy to visit the municipal baths which are included in the package, as all of them are within a walking distance (although the traditional sandals are not so comfortable for walking that I would... We Stayed three nights in this Ryokan and were very impressed. We took the plan with evening meal, served in our room. This worked very well and we had some excellent food both for dinner and the traditional breakfast which was nearly as big! The people on reception, who I assumed to be the owners were very helpful and spoke... More

I thought the food serving looked small. I was wroooong. Combine the small servings and you won't be able to finish your dinner or breakfast. It was all delicious and gorgeously prepared. When we arrives for lunch the ryokan staff pointed us to a restaurant at the 2nd floor of a live fish market. Very good food there too. Pricier... More

The service here is excellent. On arrival one of the (slightly built) staff carried our (very heavy) suitcases up the stairs to our room. As usual we were served tea and sweets, while arranging a time for our family time bath in their facilities downstairs, and co-ordinating this with dinner. Sizing for the yukata was checked in anticipation of our... More

Staying here gives a small taste of traditional ryokan life, and staff are more than happy to explain, demonstrate and discuss ryokan/onsen etiquette for those who are uninitiated. Flip flops and yukata are provided free of charge for all guests, and you can change into outside shoes (also provided) for when wandering around town from onsen to onsen. The three... More

Mikuniya is easily the best ryokan I've stayed at in Japan. The facilities are outstanding - very clean and modern, without losing the classic ryokan feel. The three on-site onsen are excellent - really you are spoiled for choice with the seven public onsen available in the town of Kinosaki, but the on-site facilities are first-rate too. The food was...
