Staying at an authentic Japanese ryokan had long been on my bucket list. I had heard this was a very good one, so I gave it a shot. Ryokans are similar to an American bed and breakfasts, small, independent inns. This being clear, I'm not a big bed and breakfast fan, I value privacy, that sometimes is lost at a... More

This was the largest ryokan we stayed in during our trip to Japan. Located within easy walking distance of the ferry and the sights. Our room was large and comfortable. There is a lovely onsen that's great to relax in. The owners are very friendly and recommended places to visit and eat. Our only complaint was that it was quite... More

This little ryokan in the backstreets of Miyajima is absolutely divine. We (sadly) only spent a night here but it was the best accommodation experience we have had in 3 weeks of Japan. No matter how many starts you look for in hotels, this family run ryokan will give you the authentic Japanese hospitality. The rooms and bath are very... More

A beautifully traditional property just off the busy shopping street on Miyajima. We had booked several months in advance but even then they could not accommodate our preferred nights and due to our schedule we could stay here only for one night. Miyajima comes into its own after the hordes of day-trippers have left - if you come to Japan,... More

Just perfect. Located in a quiet street. The staff is particularly kind. Really a nice place to stay and very good value for money. Don't miss the meals : they are delicious and colorful. A genuine Ryokan, what else ?

This traditional ryokan is a bit tricky to find at first but once you have your bearings you appreciate just what a superb location you have chosen. Right in the heart of Miyajima's tourist hotspots. Close to the Tori gates, temples, shops and banks. You are about three mins walk to the waterfront. They have WiFi in very comfortable smallish... More

Miyajima is a Mecca for tourists, domestic and foreign. It's the kind of place someone wishing to avoid the tourism crush might be tempted to avoid. A quiet stay at Ryoso Yamaguchi gives this traveler the best of both worlds. The Ryoso will feed you authentic meals (or a hearty western breakfast if you prefer) but is away from the... More

The Japanese-style ryokan was about a 15 minute walk from the ferry terminal. Our room was very large, with bedding on the tatami floor, a low table with two "cheater" chairs, small TV, very good AC, a hot pot for heating water, free wifi, and an enclosed balcony. The room had a foyer that contained a sink, refrigerator and the... More
