This was a wonderful and relaxing short stay at a very small (4 room) Ryokan. The hotel is right by the ferry terminal and 10 mins walk from the attractions. The mother and son hosts (I hope they will forgive me forgetting their names) are quite superb...we could not have bee more welcomed. The room was large, well appointed and... More

This place is fantastically convenient and the food is amazing. The host (Shinko) is delightful and friendly, and we felt like we had been welcomed into someone's home. We stayed for two nights during a quiet time in December. We were very glad we could enjoy two delicious dinners and Japanese style breakfasts. The seafood was super fresh and the... More

Having managed to book a Japanese traditional room, booking directly with Shinko via email, this is probably my favorite place. Shinko was very sweet and kept thanking me for booking with her directly as opposed to using booking sites, and made me feel very humbled and special be a use of it. I actually think we got a much larger... More

We had an absolutely lovely time at this ryokan. The host, Shinko, is the loveliest human being you'll ever meet. As soon as you arrive she showers you with smiles and loveliness. She will bend over backwards to accommodate her guests and is infinitely patient and polite. The food that is served in the restaurant downstairs was some of the... More

This tiny, comfy place stands right in front of the ferry pier. The look is that of the traditional Japanese restaurant (well..what in my mind a traditional japanese restaurant would look like 😂). We are promptly and warmly welcomed by this lovely lady (the owner I suppose) and sitted at the "bar" (I mean the place were the shef slices... More

Yamaichi Bekkan is the smallest ryokan on the island, but what a jewel. Not only is it the directly opposite the ferry dock, the food is fantastic but takes a back seat to the kindness & congeniality of the owner Shinko-san & her son Teppu-san. We were late in leaving Hiroshima & so caught the very last ferry of the... More

We stayed at Sakuraya down the road a bit and needed to find dinner on the island as our lodging only served breakfast. There's really not much to choose from - especially on Wednesday night (many are closed who are normally open at night). We happened on this place after wandering a bit and had a fantastic dinner. The hostess... More

We spent two nights here sharing a very large traditional style room with our two teenage sons. Shinko and her son were so lovely and made us feel very welcome. They gave us great advise on the island and routes up to Mt Misen. The food was truly spectacular, better than the some of the expensive restaurants we have eaten... More

We opted to use Miyajima as a quiet base for several days to explore both the island itself and Hiroshima because the ferry and train services are so regular and "island life" is just so much more appealing. We chose Yamaichi Bekkan on line because of its small scale (4 rooms). We noted previous reviews regarding room types and requested... More
