We opted to use Miyajima as a quiet base for several days to explore both the island itself and Hiroshima because the ferry and train services are so regular and "island life" is just so much more appealing. We chose Yamaichi Bekkan on line because of its small scale (4 rooms). We noted previous reviews regarding room types and requested... More

We stayed at this traditional accommodation for two nights. Before commenting I would like to make two observations based on a few previous reviews. Firstly, traditional Japanese pillows do seem to be full of round objects and are uncomfortable for westerners. During three weeks in Japan, much of it in traditional accommodation we found that if you placed the pillow... More

It's tough to make a full review here given how nice and welcoming the owners were. Truly almost makes me feel bad writing it. So here it is, judging the hotel only: - Rooms were smallish, noisy (not at night, but in the morning when the groups of kids arrive on the island and their teachers start yaling at them)... More

We lucked out and wound up in a western room and it was terrible. Twin beds that felt like bricks and smelt damp, dirty carpet, no space. If we were in a Japanese-style room I'm sure our experience would have been different. On the flip side, the food was delicious and service very friendly.

I don't want to over inflate people's expectations, but we got the warmest welcome here compared to any other place during our trip to Japan. Shinko is a marvellous host who is guaranteed to make your stay truly memorable in terms of hospitality and wonderful food. Add the proximity to the ferry terminal on this island paradise 45 minutes away... More

This was one of the big surprises of our Japanese trip. Miyajima was a massive highlight and the Yamaichi Bekkan added to the whole experience. Run by a mother and son team; this ryokan was basic but clean and in an excellent location, right in front of the ferry terminal. We had a 2 nights stay with breakfast and kaiseki... More

A very welcoming, family run establishment with amazing food. Ideally situated on the island close to the pier where the ferry docks. We were made so welcome when we stayed here. We had dinner and breakfast included in our stay which both where exemplary. If you are looking for a place to stay on Miyajima this is definitely a great... More

I am currently enjoying my second night in this traditional establishment. The lady who owns/runs the place with her son is a fantastic host. Both she and her son are so helpful and friendly. Our room is beautiful and has everything we could need, even a shower which is unusual in a traditional inn. The food has been wonderful and... More

Hard to put into words about how wonderful our stay was! We were warmly greeted as we had called to tell them we were running very late but found them ready and happy to accomodate us with a late supper! Shinko and her son Teppei continued to be the best hosts anyone could ever as ask for! Our rooms -... More

Our stay here was made special by our host Shinko who was extremely kind, courteous and friendly. We enjoyed everything about our stay. The japanese styles room was comfortable and very clean. The tradtional breakfast was excellent. The location was very convenient for access to the ferry and the waterfront area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel and... More
